Disney has revealed major new details about Frozen 3, confirming that Anna and Kristoff are getting married while a mysterious new threat sends Anna and Elsa on another dangerous adventure beyond Arendelle. Olaf’s famous “Samantha” joke from Frozen II is also returning with an unexpected romantic twist.
Frozen 3 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027. Kristen Bell returns as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as Olaf.
Anna and Kristoff’s wedding leads to a new adventure
Anna and Kristoff’s relationship has developed throughout the franchise, with Kristoff finally proposing at the end of Frozen II. Their wedding will now become part of the third movie, but the royal celebration appears unlikely to go according to plan.
Anna also enters the story in a very different position. After becoming Queen of Arendelle at the end of Frozen II, she must balance her responsibilities as ruler with her relationship with Kristoff and her bond with Elsa.
First-look material points to Anna and Elsa leaving Arendelle and travelling through unfamiliar territory. Earlier concept art showed Elsa riding a white horse while Anna travelled on a brown stag, reinforcing the idea that the sisters will explore a new part of their world.
A mysterious Frozen 3 villain emerges
One of the biggest mysteries is the movie’s new antagonist. Footage shown by Disney features the characters travelling through an icy forest before a mysterious figure comes down from a snowy peak and confronts Anna and Elsa.
The encounter suggests the newcomer could already know the sisters, but Disney has not revealed the character’s identity, motives or possible connection to Elsa’s powers. Any specific claims about the villain’s background remain speculation for now.
The new journey is expected to take Anna and Elsa far beyond Arendelle, expanding the mythology and locations introduced in the first two films.
Olaf’s Samantha joke returns
Olaf is also getting an unusual storyline involving Samantha. In Frozen II, the snowman suddenly called out the name while lost before admitting that he did not actually know anyone called Samantha.
Gad has now performed a Samantha-related love song during a Disney presentation, with romance teased for Olaf alongside Anna and Kristoff’s wedding. Disney has not confirmed whether Samantha will become a new character or whether the storyline is an extension of the original joke.
The original Frozen cast is returning
Bell, Menzel, Groff and Gad will reprise their familiar roles, while songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are also returning for upcoming Frozen projects. The duo created some of the franchise’s best-known music, including “Let It Go” and “Into the Unknown.”
The franchise is also expanding outside cinemas. At Disneyland Paris, World of Frozen is part of the Disney Adventure World transformation, bringing Anna and Elsa’s world to a major theme-park destination.
Frozen 4 is already in development
The long wait for the sequel follows the enormous success of the previous films. The original Frozen earned around $1.3 billion worldwide, while Frozen II generated approximately $1.45 billion globally after its 2019 release.
Disney has also confirmed that Frozen 4 is in development, although no release date has been announced. That leaves open the possibility that the new villain and journey beyond Arendelle could form part of a larger story spanning both movies.
Meanwhile, Bell has denied reports claiming she would receive $60 million for returning as Anna. Her actual salary has not been publicly disclosed.
For now, the biggest confirmed details are Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, the return of the four principal voice stars, Olaf’s Samantha storyline, a journey beyond Arendelle and a mysterious new enemy. Disney is still keeping the villain’s identity and the connection between Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 secret ahead of the November 24, 2027 release.
