Marvel Studios has officially cast Inde Navarrette as Rogue in its new X-Men movie, giving the 25-year-old American actor one of the most recognisable mutant roles in comic-book history. The casting was unveiled as Marvel introduced its new generation of X-Men at Disney’s D23 showcase in Anaheim in August 2026.
Navarrette joins Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier. Adam Driver will play Mister Sinister. The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on May 5, 2028.
Rogue is more than another powerful superhero. Her inability to touch people without absorbing their memories, energy and abilities makes her a character shaped by isolation, fear and the search for belonging.

Navarrette was born on March 3, 2001, in Tucson, Arizona. She is best known for playing Sarah Cushing in Superman & Lois and also appeared as Estela de la Cruz in 13 Reasons Why. Before her Rogue casting was confirmed, Navarrette had spoken about meeting director Jake Schreier and expressed interest in Mystique, helping fuel speculation about her possible MCU role.
The confirmed lineup includes Navarrette as Rogue, Sink as Jean Grey, Connor as Cyclops, Boyd as Storm, Weaving as Emma Frost, Abbott as Professor X and Driver as Mister Sinister. Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts* and episodes of Beef, is directing the movie, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo attached to the screenplay.
The official Marvel website remains the primary destination for the studio’s movie announcements and upcoming MCU releases.
The mix of younger performers and established actors gives Marvel a team that could develop across several films. The earlier report on Kit Connor being selected as Cyclops provides more background on the actor taking over one of the X-Men’s defining roles.

Rogue’s powers and Mister Sinister’s MCU role
Created by Chris Claremont and Michael Golden, Rogue first appeared in Avengers Annual #10 in 1981. Her mutant ability allows her to absorb another person’s energy, memories, personality traits and powers through physical contact.
A prolonged touch can leave another person unconscious or seriously injured, which is why Rogue traditionally wears gloves and avoids unnecessary skin contact. Flight, extreme durability and super strength were not originally part of her mutation. In the comics, she retained those abilities following a devastating encounter with Carol Danvers.
Marvel has not revealed whether Navarrette’s Rogue will already have those additional powers when the movie begins. The studio has also not confirmed how closely the film will follow her comic-book origin, where Mystique and Destiny influenced Rogue before she eventually sought Professor Xavier’s help.
Anna Paquin previously played Rogue in Fox’s live-action X-Men films beginning in 2000. Navarrette’s casting represents a new MCU interpretation rather than a continuation of Paquin’s story.
Several major mutants remain outside the announced lineup. Marvel has not confirmed new actors for Magneto, Wolverine, Gambit, Beast, Nightcrawler or Mystique, nor has it said whether legacy performers will appear in the 2028 film.
That distinction is important as Marvel continues using its multiverse. James Marsden’s Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday, for example, is separate from Connor’s casting as Scott Summers in the new X-Men movie.
Mister Sinister is currently the most important confirmed antagonist. Known as Nathaniel Essex in the comics, he is obsessed with mutant genetics and has extensive connections to Cyclops and Jean Grey. Rogue’s power absorption could also attract his attention, although Marvel has not revealed his objective in the film.
No trailer, Rogue costume or detailed plot synopsis has been released. Marvel has also not confirmed whether the story will explore Rogue’s romance with Gambit, her history with Captain Marvel or her complicated relationship with Mystique.
The May 2028 movie will give Marvel Studios its biggest opportunity yet to establish a core MCU X-Men team. For Navarrette, Rogue could become the defining role of her career, combining formidable mutant abilities with the loneliness and emotional conflict that have made the character one of Marvel’s most enduring X-Men.
