NEW YORK — Maya Joint has defeated Serena Williams for the second time in two months, partnering Hao-Ching Chan to knock Serena and Venus Williams out of the 2026 US Open women’s doubles in a dramatic night match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The No. 14 seeds won 6-3, 6-7(6), [10-7] after three hours and two minutes. Joint and Chan produced the decisive turnaround after falling 5-0 behind in the match tiebreak.

Joint and Chan took the opening set 6-3 before the Williams sisters responded in a tight second set. Serena and Venus edged the tiebreak 8-6 to force a deciding 10-point shootout.
The Americans then surged to a 5-0 lead, but Joint and Chan stayed composed, erased the deficit and completed the comeback 10-7.
Joint was especially reliable on serve, winning seven of her eight service games while playing in front of a crowd of around 24,000 spectators.

The result has extra significance because Joint had already defeated Serena at Wimbledon in July. That three-set win ended Serena’s brief singles comeback and gave the 20-year-old Australian one of the biggest results of her young career.
