McDonald’s Customers Furious as £7.29 Chicken McNuggets Meal Sparks UK Price Backlash

McDonald’s customers across the UK have reacted angrily after the fast-food giant revealed the prices of items on its new Easter menu. The popular chain confirmed that several seasonal items will be arriving in restaurants on March 17, but many fans say the cost of some meals has become “out of hand”.

The biggest criticism has been aimed at the new Spicy Chicken McNuggets meals, with the six-piece Extra Value Meal priced at ÂŁ7.29. The meal includes six spicy nuggets, fries and a drink. Many customers say the price feels far higher than what they expect to pay at a fast-food restaurant.

Social media quickly filled with complaints as diners shared their frustration about rising prices across the McDonald’s menu.

Customers Slam ÂŁ7.29 Chicken McNuggets Meal

The ÂŁ7.29 price tag for the six-piece Spicy McNuggets Extra Value Meal has become the main talking point among customers. Some fans say the cost now rivals meals from pubs or local restaurants.

One angry customer wrote online: “The prices are getting out of hand! May as well go to the pub at these prices but get a plate and knife and fork.”

Another customer added: “Cheaper to buy Chinese or eat in a nice pub.”

A third commenter questioned the logic behind the pricing, writing: “Them spicy nugget prices don’t make any sense at all.”

The criticism highlights growing concern about the cost of fast food as many UK households continue to deal with rising living expenses.

Full List of New McDonald’s Easter Menu Prices

The fast-food chain confirmed that ten new items will be added to the menu for the Easter period. Alongside the spicy nuggets, McDonald’s is introducing several desserts inspired by Cadbury chocolate products.

The full list of items and prices includes:

  • Cadbury Mini Eggs Frappe – ÂŁ3.89
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs McFlurry Mini – ÂŁ1.89
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs McFlurry – ÂŁ2.59
  • Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry Mini – ÂŁ1.89
  • Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry – ÂŁ2.59
  • 6 Spicy McNuggets Extra Value Meal – ÂŁ7.29
  • 9 Spicy McNuggets Extra Value Meal – ÂŁ7.99
  • 20 Sharebox Spicy McNuggets – ÂŁ8.09
  • Double Big Mac Extra Value Meal – ÂŁ8.59
  • Double Big Mac with Bacon Extra Value Meal – ÂŁ9.49

Many fans had been eagerly waiting for the return of Cadbury themed desserts. The Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry previously appeared on the menu in April 2024.

However, customers have noticed the price increase. The regular version previously cost ÂŁ2.19, meaning the new ÂŁ2.59 price represents roughly an 18% rise.

One customer commented online: “£2.59 for a McFlurry is wild.”

Why McDonald’s Says Prices Have Increased

McDonald’s responded to the criticism by explaining that rising ingredient costs have forced restaurants to review menu prices.

A spokesperson for the company said the brand remains focused on offering value to customers while maintaining food quality.

The spokesperson said: “Providing value remains an absolute priority. We continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every customer has a value offering that works for them.

“This includes weekly app offers that sit alongside always-on value options like our incredibly popular Saver Menu.

“However, we refuse to compromise on the quality of our ingredients – and that means when these ingredients cost more, we have to review our prices.”

Changes to McDonald’s Loyalty Points Scheme

Alongside the new menu, McDonald’s has also warned customers about changes to its loyalty rewards system.

From March 17, customers will need to collect more points before they can claim free food or drinks through the McDonald’s Rewards scheme.

Currently, customers need to spend ÂŁ15 to collect 1,500 points to unlock rewards such as a Mini McFlurry, a hash brown, or a regular McCafĂŠ drink.

Under the new system, customers will need 2,000 points to unlock the same rewards.

This means diners will need to spend around ÂŁ5 more before they can redeem certain freebies. Higher-tier rewards will also require around 1,000 additional points, equivalent to spending roughly ÂŁ10 more.

The change has prompted some customers to use their existing points before the update takes effect.

New Breakfast Item Also Arriving

As part of the menu changes, McDonald’s is also introducing the Sausage and Egg McGriddle in UK restaurants.

The breakfast item, which is already popular in the United States, features sausage and egg served between two maple-flavoured griddle cakes.

The launch marks another attempt by the fast-food chain to expand its breakfast menu offerings in the UK market.

Fast Food Prices Rising Across the Industry

The backlash against McDonald’s prices reflects a wider trend across the fast-food industry. Many restaurant chains have increased prices over the past two years as food costs, wages and energy bills continue to rise.

According to data from the UK Office for National Statistics, food inflation has affected both supermarkets and restaurants, forcing businesses to adjust pricing.

Despite the criticism, McDonald’s remains one of the most popular fast-food chains in the UK, serving millions of customers each week.

However, the reaction to the ÂŁ7.29 nugget meal suggests customers are paying closer attention to menu prices than ever before.

With the Easter menu launching on March 17, it remains to be seen whether fans will continue buying the new items — or whether the price backlash will push some diners to look elsewhere for cheaper meals.
