McDonald’s Australia Launches Viral “Menu Heist” With Japan’s Famous Teriyaki Burger

McDonald’s Australia is introducing one of its most ambitious menu updates in years with the launch of its new limited-time “Menu Heist” range, bringing some of the chain’s most talked-about international menu items to Australian customers for the first time.

The new lineup officially launches nationwide on May 27 and includes five overseas-inspired products from Japan, Canada, the UK and the United States. The announcement has already generated strong online buzz after Australian customers spotted the new items trending across social media and news platforms.

McDonald’s Australia says the range was created after years of online demand from customers who regularly watched viral overseas McDonald’s menu reviews on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.

Japan’s famous Teriyaki Burger finally arrives in Australia

The biggest attraction in the Menu Heist range is the Teriyaki Chicken Burger, one of McDonald’s Japan’s best-known menu items. The burger features 100 per cent Aussie chicken breast fillet coated in crispy batter and layered with sweet-and-tangy teriyaki sauce, shredded lettuce and creamy mayonnaise inside a soft bun.

Another Japanese favourite joining the Australian menu is the Garlic & Black Pepper McNuggets. Unlike regular McNuggets, these are seasoned with a stronger garlic and black pepper coating designed to deliver a more savoury flavour profile.

Breakfast fans are also getting a major addition with the Benny-Style Bacon ‘N Egg Bagel, inspired by Canadian breakfast flavours. The item includes rasher bacon, egg, cheese and creamy hollandaise sauce served on a lightly toasted bagel. McDonald’s confirmed the bagel will only be available during breakfast service until 11:30am.

Meanwhile, burger lovers looking for a heavier option can try the Philly Cheese Stack, imported from the UK menu. The burger includes two beef patties stacked with grilled onions, crispy onions, three slices of cheese, pickles and rich cheese sauce inside a toasted bun.

The fifth item in the range is the Special Edition GOLD Sauce from the United States. McDonald’s describes it as a creamy combination of smoky mustard and tomato flavours designed for dipping fries, nuggets and McWings.

Why the Menu Heist launch is getting huge attention

McDonald’s Australia Marketing Director Amanda Nakad said the company specifically selected items that already had strong cult followings online.

“These are flavours Aussies have been craving online for years, and now it’s finally our turn,” she said during the launch announcement.

The launch is also attracting attention because several reports have described it as McDonald’s Australia’s biggest menu shake-up since the McAngus range launched nearly two decades ago.

Australian customers can order the Menu Heist range through participating restaurants, drive-thru, McDelivery and the MyMacca’s app for a limited time only. More official details are available through the McDonald’s Australia newsroom.
