Three-time Grammy Award-winning R&B star Ne-Yo is set to return to South Africa this October, bringing one of the year’s biggest international music events to Cape Town and Pretoria. The singer, songwriter and performer will take the stage at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on 17 October 2026 before heading to SunBet Arena in Pretoria on 18 October 2026 as part of his international tour.
The announcement marks a highly anticipated return for the artist born Shaffer Chimere Smith, whose music has enjoyed lasting popularity among South African audiences for more than two decades. With a catalogue that has generated more than 23 billion streams globally, Ne-Yo remains one of the most successful R&B artists of his generation.
From ‘So Sick’ to Global Stardom
Ne-Yo first achieved worldwide success in 2005 when his breakout single So Sick reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned multi-platinum certification. The song became a defining R&B hit and helped launch a career filled with chart-topping releases including Sexy Love, Because of You, Closer, and Miss Independent.
Beyond his own recordings, Ne-Yo has established himself as one of the music industry’s most respected songwriters. His writing credits include Rihanna’s Unfaithful, Take a Bow and Russian Roulette, as well as BeyoncĂ©’s hit single Irreplaceable. He has also written songs for artists including Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, CĂ©line Dion and Mario.

New Music Ahead of the South Africa Tour
South African fans will also experience a new chapter in Ne-Yo’s career. His upcoming album Highway 79, scheduled for release on 10 July 2026, introduces a country-inspired sound while maintaining elements of the R&B style that made him famous.
Recorded in Nashville, the project takes its name from both Ne-Yo’s birth year, 1979, and Highway 79 in Arkansas, where he was born. The lead single, Ms. Tundra, produced by Chuck Harmony, blends upbeat country influences with contemporary R&B and is expected to feature prominently during the October performances.
Outside music, Ne-Yo has expanded his career through television and film appearances, including roles in BMF, Empire, World of Dance, Dance Monsters, Stomp the Yard, Red Tails and The Wiz Live!, further cementing his status as a multi-faceted entertainer.
According to Vertex Events Executive Director Thato Segaole, bringing Ne-Yo to South Africa reflects the promoter’s commitment to delivering world-class live entertainment experiences. The concerts add to a growing list of international acts choosing South Africa as a key destination on their touring schedules. Fans following major R&B events may also be interested in the Tamia South Africa Tour 2026, another highly anticipated performance announced for local audiences.
Tickets for the Ne-Yo concerts are available through Webtickets and participating Pick n Pay stores nationwide. Prices start from R950, with gates opening at 6pm for both shows.
