Nicole Scherzinger Opens Up About Being ‘Pigeonholed’ Before Major PBS Performance

Nicole Scherzinger is drawing major attention online after opening up about feeling “pigeonholed” throughout much of her music career ahead of her new PBS concert special, Great Performances: An Evening with Nicole Scherzinger.

The former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman said many people only viewed her as a pop singer despite her long-standing connection to musical theatre. Speaking ahead of the PBS premiere, Scherzinger explained that she created the concert herself to showcase the different sides of her artistry instead of waiting for Hollywood or the music industry to redefine her image.

“I really grew up in musical theater, and a lot of people didn’t know that side of me,” Scherzinger told PEOPLE. “Sometimes when people pigeonhole you and put you in a box, they kind of only see you one way.”

The special was filmed during her sold-out performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October 2025 and premieres on PBS on May 22, 2026. According to PBS Great Performances, the show combines Broadway classics, jazz standards and Pussycat Dolls hits backed by a full orchestra.

Royal Albert Hall Performance Sparks New Attention

One of the most talked-about moments from the concert is Scherzinger’s emotional performance of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” from Funny Girl. The clip quickly gained traction online after PBS released preview footage, helping her trend across search platforms and entertainment news sections.

The concert also features songs including “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret, highlighting the theatrical background Scherzinger says has often been overlooked during her mainstream music career.

The timing of the special is significant. In 2025, Scherzinger won widespread praise — including a Tony Award — for her role in Sunset Blvd., a performance many critics described as a turning point in her career.

Pussycat Dolls Reunion Plans Add to Buzz

Alongside her solo projects, Scherzinger is also preparing to reunite with fellow Pussycat Dolls members Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts for a performance at the Out Loud Music Festival during WeHo Pride in Los Angeles this June. Reports also suggest the group is preparing for a wider U.K. and European tour later in 2026.

The growing excitement around the reunion has already fueled fan conversations online. Swikblog recently covered the latest updates surrounding the Pussycat Dolls reunion and reported tour plans.

For Scherzinger, the PBS special represents more than a concert broadcast. It is a public statement about artistic identity, career evolution and finally showing audiences the full range of talent she says has existed long before the spotlight returned.
