Shake Shack is opening 11 restaurants across nine US states in August 2026, bringing the burger chain to more customers in California, Florida, Texas, New York, Virginia, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana and Arizona. Six locations had opened by August 12, while five more were scheduled for later in the month.
The expansion includes four restaurants that opened on the same day and Virginia’s first Shake Shack drive-thru. However, exact dates and addresses remain unavailable for five upcoming locations, so customers should confirm their status before visiting.
Shake Shack August 2026 opening list
The first two restaurants opened in Elk Grove, California, on August 5 and Albany, New York, on August 6.
Four locations opened on Wednesday, August 12:
- Highland Village, Texas: 4000 Waller Creek
- La Quinta, California: 78-772 Highway 111
- Parker, Colorado: 9185 Crown Crest Blvd.
- Sterling, Virginia: 20961 South Bank St.
Five additional restaurants are expected later in August:
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Doral, Florida
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Orlando, Florida
- Tucson, Arizona
Shake Shack has not announced precise opening dates, street addresses, regular hours or launch promotions for those five restaurants. Construction, inspections and employee training can affect opening schedules, making unofficial dates unreliable.
Sterling gets Virginia’s first Shake Shack drive-thru
The August 12 openings expanded Shake Shack’s footprint in four established markets. Highland Village became its 33rd Texas restaurant, La Quinta its 54th California location and Parker its 15th in Colorado.
Sterling became the company’s 16th Virginia restaurant and the first in the state with a drive-thru. The format gives suburban customers, commuters and families an alternative to ordering inside or through the app.
Drive-thrus are becoming a more visible part of Shake Shack’s growth strategy beyond the United States as well. The company is preparing its first Canadian Shake Shack drive-thru in Calgary, where car-based service is expected to complement its traditional restaurant format.
Only Sterling has been confirmed as Virginia’s first drive-thru location. Customers should not assume that the other August restaurants offer drive-thru service without checking their individual listings.
Expansion supports a much larger growth target
Shake Shack wants to build at least 1,500 company-operated restaurants over time. That goal does not simply refer to the worldwide total because licensed restaurants run by operating partners are counted separately.
During the second quarter of 2026, Shake Shack opened 16 company-operated restaurants and 11 licensed locations. Its network had grown to more than 710 restaurants, including approximately 460 in 35 US states and Washington, D.C., plus over 250 international locations.
The company’s official second-quarter results showed revenue rising 17.2% to $417.6 million. System-wide sales increased 13.8% to $625.8 million, while comparable restaurant sales gained 3.5%.
Restaurant-level profit reached $92.7 million, or 23% of Shack sales. Net income was $16.9 million, and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization reached $61.2 million.
Expansion requires substantial investment. Shake Shack spent approximately $104.9 million on property and equipment during the first half of 2026, compared with $67.4 million during the equivalent period in 2025.
Restaurant chains do not all grow at the same pace or follow the same model. Shake Shack’s multi-state rollout contrasts with the more concentrated approach behind In-N-Out’s planned 2026 restaurant openings, which remain closely tied to that company’s supply network.

Menu choices at the new restaurants
Shake Shack is known for made-to-order burgers using 100% Angus beef, chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, hand-spun milkshakes and house-made lemonades.
The Avocado Bacon Burger combines a quarter-pound beef patty with American cheese, hand-sliced avocado, applewood-smoked bacon and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun. Recent specialty drinks have included the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Shake and Biscoff Cookie Butter Tiramisu Shake, although seasonal availability can vary.
Customers who prefer to skip the bread can request eligible beef patties or chicken breasts in a lettuce wrap. Anyone managing a food allergy should still ask restaurant staff about ingredients, preparation and potential cross-contact.
What customers should confirm before visiting
The Atlanta, Doral, Indianapolis, Orlando and Tucson locations remain scheduled for later in August, but their exact details have not been released. Menu selection, opening hours and service options may also differ between restaurants.
Customers should verify a new restaurant through Shake Shack’s location directory or ordering app before travelling. Recently opened locations may experience heavier traffic and longer waits during their first few days.
