What is Daily Lotto
Daily Lotto is a South African National Lottery game where you select 5 numbers from 1 to 36. The lottery then draws 5 numbers from the same range. The jackpot is won by matching all 5 numbers drawn. If the jackpot is not won, the jackpot value rolls down to the match 4 prize pool.
What is Daily Lotto Plus
Daily Lotto Plus is an add-on game that gives you a second chance to win using the same numbers you played in Daily Lotto. It is an additional game that you can only enter once you’ve played Daily Lotto, and it costs half the price of a Daily Lotto entry. Daily Lotto Plus has its own separate draw.
How to play Daily Lotto and Daily Lotto Plus
To play, you need to select 5 numbers from 1 to 36. You can do this in different ways:
- Choose your own numbers by marking them on a Play Slip or online.
- Use Quick Pick to let the system randomly select numbers for you (available on Play Slips, online, or by asking the retailer).
- Ask a retailer to enter your chosen numbers directly into the terminal (you can play up to 20 boards/lines from the terminal).
- You can also choose to play your numbers for 1 to 10 consecutive draws in advance.
Remember: You must first play Daily Lotto before you can play Daily Lotto Plus. Daily Lotto and Daily Lotto Plus each have their own separate draws.
How the winning numbers are generated
A Random Number Generator (RNG) is a specialised computerised system designed solely to generate random and unpredictable combinations of winning numbers for the Daily Lotto and Daily Lotto Plus draws.
The RNG operates independently from the Central Gaming System (CGS) — it has no connection to, or knowledge of the numbers players select, the tickets purchased, or any other participant data. This separation is a critical security and integrity feature, ensuring that the RNG cannot be influenced or biased by any information about players’ entries.
To guarantee fairness and integrity, the RNG system is thoroughly tested, certified, and regularly audited by independent third-party bodies. Additionally, the entire lottery operation, including the RNG processes, is overseen, approved, and monitored by the National Lotteries Commission (NLC), providing an extra layer of regulatory oversight and assurance that every draw is conducted transparently, fairly, and securely.
