Music streaming platform Spotify faced a widespread outage on Monday, December 15, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the app and streaming songs, according to Downdetector.
Outage reports surged in multiple countries. Downdetector showed more than 31,200 reports in the United States around 9:33 a.m. ET, while the UK recorded over 10,300 app issues and Canada saw nearly 4,000 reports around the same time.
Users on social media platforms like Reddit and X said they were facing login problems, trouble opening Spotifyâs homepage, and playback issues â including song queues that wouldnât load or would stop unexpectedly.
Spotify acknowledged the disruption in a post on X, saying it was aware of issues and was investigating. The company did not immediately share the cause of the outage or a specific timeline for a full fix.
Later updates suggested signs of recovery. Downdetector graphs and user comments indicated that reports began dropping from the earlier peak, with many users saying the service was gradually returning to normal â though some continued to see intermittent errors.
Spotifyâs outage also drew attention in financial markets, with the companyâs shares down about 2.4% in morning trading as the disruption unfolded.
Downdetectorâs numbers are based on user-submitted reports, so the total number of affected listeners may differ. If Spotify is still not working for you, restarting the app, checking for updates, and trying again after a few minutes may help while the platform stabilizes.
