New Zealand’s product-safety authority published its recall notice on 9 July 2026. Product Safety Australia listed the recall on 13 July 2026.
As of 22 July 2026, no additional character designs, sales dates or product identifiers have been added to the official notices. No batch code, model number or serial number has been published, so buyers must identify the product by its Toy Story 5 branding, character topper and purchase location.
In New Zealand, the cups were sold at Hoyts Cinemas nationwide. The Australian notice identifies Hoyts Cinemas as the seller and confirms the same 16-to-29 June sales period.
Which Toy Story 5 cups are recalled?
All four collector-cup designs included in the notices are affected:

- Jessie
- Lilypad
- Woody
New Zealand’s notice spells two names as “Jessy” and “Lily Pad,” while Hoyts uses “Jessie” and “Lilypad” in its announcement. These are the same four character designs.
The defect may cause a moulded character topper to break when it is dropped, pulled or twisted. Detached plastic pieces can become a choking hazard if a child places them in their mouth or swallows them.
An apparently undamaged topper is still covered by the recall. Customers should not pull or twist the figure to test its strength.

Can the reusable cup still be used?
Consumers should follow the instructions for the country where the product was purchased because the Australian and New Zealand notices are not identical.

In New Zealand, customers are told to discontinue use of the character topper and lid. The government notice says the main cup is not defective and may continue to be used after those recalled components have been removed.
