WILMINGTON, N.C. â The Wilmington Sky Lantern Festival by Ascent is set to bring an evening of glowing lanterns, music and entertainment to the downtown Riverwalk on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with the waterfront event scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. EDT.
The ticketed festival will take place at 128 S. Water Street in Wilmington, North Carolina. Visitors can expect live entertainment, music, local vendors and interactive experiences before the evening builds toward a synchronized sky lantern launch after dusk.
For anyone considering a last-minute trip downtown, the biggest details to know are the event hours, ticket requirements and the fact that organizers have not published a precise Wilmington lantern-launch time.
Wilmington Sky Lantern Festival Starts at 5 PM
Gates are scheduled to open for the festival experience at 5 p.m. Saturday, with activities continuing until 9 p.m. The location places attendees directly along Wilmington’s Riverwalk and the Cape Fear River waterfront.
The schedule begins before sunset so visitors have time to experience the entertainment and vendor areas before the main nighttime attraction. The lantern release is advertised for after dusk rather than at a specific published time.
People hoping primarily to see the lanterns should therefore avoid arriving at the last minute. Event timing can also be affected by operational or weather conditions, particularly for an outdoor activity involving airborne lanterns.
Tickets and Admission Details
Tickets are available through Luna Ticketing’s official sky lantern festival listings, which continues to show Wilmington among Ascent’s October 3 events.
Local event information has listed admission at around $67. Buyers should check the final checkout total before purchasing because ticket availability, fees and event terms may change.
The event listing says admission includes access to the festival experience, including entertainment, music, vendors, interactive activities and the synchronized lantern launch.

Lantern Launch Is the Night’s Main Attraction
As darkness arrives over Wilmington, the festival is designed to transition toward its signature finale: illuminated lanterns rising together into the night sky.
Ascent promotes its festivals as large community experiences involving glowing lanterns and crowds gathering for a coordinated release. However, a specific Wilmington attendance figure or confirmed number of lanterns has not been independently established, so visitors should treat promotional references to âthousandsâ as organizer descriptions rather than a final event count.
The event is promoted toward families, groups of friends and couples, with the Riverwalk providing a waterfront backdrop for the evening.
Riverwalk Visitors Should Plan Ahead
Anyone driving into downtown Wilmington should allow extra time for parking and walking to the festival area. The listed location is 128 S. Water Street, though ticket holders should follow any organizer instructions about entrances or check-in arrangements.
Because the main attraction happens outdoors, visitors may also want to check the organizer’s latest updates before leaving home. The available event information does not provide a guaranteed launch minute, detailed performer schedule or Wilmington-specific weather threshold for the lantern release.
A Busy October Weekend for Entertainment
The lantern festival arrives during a busy start to October for entertainment events. Viewers staying home can also check the The Amazing Race Season 39 premiere schedule, while awards fans can follow the 2027 Oscars and awards-season calendar.
For those heading to Wilmington’s waterfront, the key details are straightforward: Saturday, October 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. EDT at the Riverwalk, 128 S. Water Street, with a ticket required and the synchronized lantern launch planned as the evening’s signature attraction after dusk.
