WoW Forever Is Included With Your Subscription—But Its New Race Costs $29.99

World of Warcraft players have spent years asking Blizzard for a genuine “Classic Plus”—the original Azeroth, expanded with new adventures instead of being pushed toward another old expansion.

That idea is finally becoming real. World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026, and will be included with an active WoW subscription or game time. But one of its most heavily promoted additions will not be available to every subscriber.

The new Skyborne playable race and its Zephras Isle starting experience are currently tied to the $29.99 Skyborne Heroic Pack. That distinction was easy to miss inside an announcement dominated by more than 1,000 new quests, additional zones and new raids.

“BLIZZARD FINALLY ANNOUNCE CLASSIC PLUS,” one excited player wrote after the reveal.

The reaction captures how long players have waited for this project. However, the excitement is now being accompanied by a more practical question: What does the regular subscription actually include?

What WoW subscribers receive without buying an upgrade

Forever is much more than another fresh Classic server. Blizzard is returning to the original version of Azeroth and expanding it while keeping the level cap at 60.

Players can expect more than 1,000 quests distributed across the full leveling journey, rather than being concentrated only at the endgame. The game will also introduce nine dungeons, new 10-player and 20-player raids, additional professions and reputations, and a new battleground on the Darkspear Islands.

Mount Hyjal, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle are among the new or expanded locations. Updated lighting, real-time shadows, improved water and other visual changes are being introduced, although players will be able to switch between classic and updated character visuals.

Blizzard is also drawing firm boundaries around its new version of Azeroth. According to details shared during the Forever presentation at BlizzCon, there will be no flying mounts or level scaling. The developers are also not planning future level-cap increases that would make existing achievements and equipment irrelevant.

Transmog will exist, but players who want an untouched Classic appearance can disable transformed appearances for everyone around them. That unusual compromise allows Blizzard to introduce a modern feature without forcing it into another player’s view.

The $29.99 decision facing players

While the main game is included with a subscription, the Skyborne currently require a $29.99 upgrade. The Heroic Pack also includes early name reservation, a ground mount, cosmetic equipment, a toy and one Invite-a-Friend launch code.

Players wanting beta access must purchase the more expensive Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection. The beta runs from September 17 through October 21. These editions also include 30 days of game time and three launch-week friend codes.

Any upgrade purchase allows players to create up to three characters and reserve their names between October 27 and November 3. Friend codes will let eligible players enter Forever without a subscription during its first week, from November 4 to November 11.

The paid race will likely become one of the first major debates surrounding Forever. Blizzard has delivered the long-requested Classic Plus concept, but players who want to experience its headline new race will face an additional charge before taking their first steps on Zephras Isle.
