Easter weekend plans across the UK are set to be disrupted as Storm Dave moves in with strong winds, heavy rain and snow in some areas. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings covering Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and parts of northern England, with the worst conditions expected from Saturday evening into Sunday.
Winds are forecast to be the main concern, with widespread gusts of 50 to 60mph and stronger bursts of up to 80 to 90mph possible in exposed parts of western Scotland. These conditions could lead to damage, fallen trees and power cuts, along with disruption to mobile networks and other services.
Travel is likely to be affected during one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year. Delays are expected across road, rail, air and ferry services, particularly between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Some roads and bridges could be closed due to safety concerns, while ferry and train services may face cancellations.
Snow is also forecast for northwest Scotland, especially over higher ground. Between 5 and 10cm of snow could accumulate, with a small chance of up to 20cm in isolated areas. Combined with strong winds, this may lead to blizzard conditions, drifting snow and poor visibility.
The storm is expected to develop quickly as it approaches from the west, driven by a strong jet stream. Forecasters say conditions will worsen through Saturday, with the centre of the system moving across the north of Scotland.
Elsewhere, the weather will be more mixed. Northern areas will remain windy and unsettled into Sunday, while southern parts of the UK are expected to be breezy but drier, with some sunny spells developing later in the day.
Temperatures will vary across the country, ranging from around 7°C in northern Scotland to near 15°C in parts of southern England. As winds ease on Sunday night, colder conditions may follow, with a risk of frost before a brighter and milder Monday.
People in affected areas are advised to check travel updates, secure outdoor items and stay updated through official forecasts. For the latest warnings, visit the Met Office website.
Storm Dave is not expected to impact all parts of the UK equally, but in the north it is likely to bring a challenging start to the Easter weekend.
