Kroger shoppers in 17 states are being urged to check their pantry shelves after select bags of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons were recalled over a possible salmonella risk tied to milk powder used in the seasoning blend.
The recall was issued by Sugar Foods LLC and applies to specific 5-ounce pouches of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons with the UPC 0 11110 81353 4. The affected products were distributed to Kroger stores between March 7, 2026, and April 7, 2026.
The company said the potential contamination is linked to milk powder supplied by California Dairies Inc. to a seasoning supplier, Solina USA, before being incorporated into the seasoning blend used on the croutons. The affected seasoning batches tested negative for salmonella before use, but the recall was started out of caution after the supplier-level milk powder recall.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled croutons, according to the company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recalled bags carry the following best-if-used-by dates: FEB 17 27, FEB 18 27, FEB 27 27, FEB 28 27, MAR 6 27, MAR 9 27, MAR 21 27, APR 1 27 and APR 7 27.
The products were sent to Kroger stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Consumers who have one of the recalled bags should not eat the croutons. Sugar Foods said shoppers with questions can contact the company directly at 332-240-6676, with support available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, with symptoms often beginning within several hours to several days after exposure. Most healthy people recover without specific treatment, but infections can become more serious for young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
The recall is part of a wider set of recent food safety alerts linked to possible salmonella contamination in powdered milk ingredients. Several other products, including snack items and seasoning products, have faced related recalls this month after concerns involving the same ingredient supply chain.
