As summer temperatures remain high across the UK, Aldi is introducing a new £14.99 Portable Air Cooler designed to help shoppers stay comfortable without the high upfront cost of traditional air conditioning. The compact cooling device will be available in Aldi stores from Thursday, 2 July as part of the retailer’s popular Specialbuys range, where products are offered in limited quantities and are rarely restocked once sold out.
The launch comes as many households look for affordable ways to manage indoor temperatures during the ongoing heatwave. While portable air conditioners can cost hundreds of pounds and often require window venting, Aldi’s latest cooling gadget is aimed at people who simply want a personal cooling solution for a bedroom, desk or home office.
Everything Included in Aldi’s New Cooling Range
The highlight of the collection is the Ambiano Portable Air Cooler, priced at just £14.99. Unlike a standard desk fan, the unit uses water and ice evaporation technology to cool and humidify the air before blowing it back towards the user.
The tabletop device includes:
- Touch LED display
- Three adjustable fan speeds
- Compact design for desks and bedside tables
- Water and ice evaporative cooling system
- Low-cost personal cooling without air conditioning installation
Alongside the air cooler, Aldi is also launching a Portable Tripod Fan (£6.99). The lightweight fan can be clipped onto desks, shelves, prams or bedside tables, making it suitable for use around the home or while travelling.
For shoppers looking to circulate air around a larger space, Aldi is also introducing a Globe Fan (£39.99). The fan features 360-degree auto-rotation and includes several operating modes, including Sleep, Natural Wind and Drying.
Completing the collection are lightweight duvets and pillow pairs designed to make sleeping during warmer nights a little more comfortable without relying solely on electrical cooling devices.

How the Portable Air Cooler Works
Unlike a portable air conditioner, Aldi’s air cooler does not use refrigerants or a compressor. Instead, warm air is pulled through water-soaked cooling pads. As the water evaporates, heat is absorbed from the airflow before the cooler gently pushes the cooler, slightly more humid air back into the surrounding area.
This type of evaporative cooling is designed to improve personal comfort rather than dramatically reduce the temperature of an entire room. It generally works best when positioned close to where someone is sitting, sleeping or working and can be particularly effective in drier conditions.
Air Cooler vs Fan vs Portable Air Conditioner
Many shoppers confuse evaporative air coolers with portable air conditioners, but they work differently.
A standard fan simply circulates existing air to create a wind-chill effect. An evaporative cooler goes one step further by slightly lowering the temperature of that airflow using water evaporation. A portable air conditioner actively removes heat from a room using refrigeration technology, making it more powerful but also significantly more expensive to buy and operate.
For shoppers who only need personal cooling during hot weather, Aldi’s £14.99 model could offer an affordable middle ground between a basic desk fan and a full portable AC unit.
Should You Buy Aldi’s £14.99 Air Cooler?
The new air cooler is likely to appeal to students, renters, home workers and anyone looking for a simple cooling device without making a large investment. Buyers should keep expectations realistic, however, as it is designed to cool the immediate area around the user rather than an entire bedroom or living room.
With the UK heatwave increasing demand for affordable cooling products, Aldi’s latest Specialbuy could sell quickly once it reaches stores on 2 July.
Recent innovations in affordable consumer technology are also reshaping other markets. For example, China’s first WHQL-certified gaming GPU has attracted attention for challenging established graphics card makers with competitive performance claims.
