Nintendo has pushed out Mario Kart World update 1.7.0 for Nintendo Switch 2, giving players two fresh Knockout Tour routes, a new Photo Mode sticker tool, several balance adjustments and a long list of fixes aimed at cleaning up race flow across multiple courses.
The update is a meaningful one for active players because it affects more than the amount of content in the game. Version 1.7.0 changes recovery after certain hits, adjusts item-box behavior, improves some lower-acceleration builds and fixes issues that could interrupt Online Play, Time Trials and specific route sections.
Nintendo lists the update as a free software release for Mario Kart World, with official support information available through its Mario Kart World update page. Players who race online or locally with friends should install the latest version so everyone is using the same software build.
Mario Kart World 1.7.0 Adds Two Knockout Tour Routes
The biggest new addition is the expansion of Knockout Tour, one of Mario Kart World’s most important modes. Nintendo has added Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally to the route list.
Drill Rally connects Wario Shipyard with Bowser’s Castle, giving players a route that should reward clean driving through heavier course sections and careful recovery near hazards.
Boomerang Rally links Salty Salty Speedway and Whistlestop Summit, adding another long-form elimination route for players who want more variety beyond the existing Knockout Tour lineup.
The new rallies become selectable after a player has played at least one Knockout Tour rally. That keeps the unlock requirement simple while still introducing the new routes through the mode itself.
How Knockout Tour Works
Knockout Tour is different from a standard Mario Kart race. Instead of a normal lap structure, players race across a large connected route from one part of the world to another.
The mode begins with 24 drivers. At each of the five checkpoints, racers who do not place high enough are eliminated. That format makes consistency extremely important. A player can drive well for most of the route, but a badly timed item hit, missed shortcut or poor recovery before a checkpoint can still end the run.
That is why the new Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally matter. They do not simply add two more routes to select; they add new elimination patterns, shortcut decisions, item-box timings and recovery situations for players to learn.
More Knockout Tour Content Is Planned
Nintendo has also confirmed that additional Knockout Tour routes are planned for future updates. Reports around the new patch note that six more Knockout Tour routes are expected later, which gives players a clearer sign that the mode will continue expanding after launch.
That future-content detail is important for the game’s longer-term replay value. Knockout Tour depends heavily on route familiarity, so adding new routes can refresh the mode without needing to overhaul the core rules.

Photo Mode Stickers Give Collectibles a New Use
Mario Kart World update 1.7.0 also improves Photo Mode. Players can now place unlocked stickers while using Photo Mode from the pause menu.
The sticker feature supports touch controls and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, making placement easier depending on how players prefer to use the Nintendo Switch 2 system. Stickers can also be combined with frames, giving screenshots a more personalized look.
This change is especially useful for players who enjoy collecting items but want those rewards to do more than sit in a menu. With version 1.7.0, stickers become part of the game’s creative tools instead of functioning only as unlockable extras.
Acceleration Buffs Could Change Vehicle Choices
One of the most important gameplay adjustments is the acceleration boost for characters and vehicles that had low acceleration. In Mario Kart, acceleration affects how quickly a racer gets back up to speed after crashes, item hits or sharp turns.
That means some builds that previously felt too punishing may now be easier to use. Players who avoided heavier or slower-recovering combinations may want to test them again after installing the update.
This is not just a casual quality-of-life change. In Knockout Tour, poor recovery near a checkpoint can be the difference between surviving and being eliminated. Better acceleration for weaker builds could make the mode feel less punishing for a wider range of character and vehicle choices.
Gliding, Jump Boosts and Recovery Have Been Adjusted
Nintendo has also raised the gliding speed of high-speed characters and some other characters and vehicles. Routes with longer airborne sections may now feel slightly different, especially for players trying to maintain momentum after ramps or gliding transitions.
The update also changes how quickly players can react after certain disruptive effects. Racers can now hop right away after being hit by Kamek’s magic or Bullet Bill. That should make recovery feel more responsive and reduce moments where players feel locked out of control for too long.
Nintendo also adjusted the conditions for performing a Jump Boost by shaking the controller while racing on top of water. The behavior after landing on rivals has also been changed, with longer dash time after landing successfully on another racer.
Item Boxes, Super Horns and Slipstream Control
The 1.7.0 update changes the rate at which players can acquire items from item boxes in races and in Knockout Tour. Nintendo has not described the change as a simple increase or decrease for all players, but any item-box adjustment can affect race balance.
In Knockout Tour, item timing can decide whether a player survives a checkpoint. A change to item acquisition can influence comeback chances, front-runner safety and the amount of chaos near elimination points.
Another practical change is that players can now see when a rival is holding a Super Horn. That gives nearby racers more information before using offensive items or attempting to pass. Since the Super Horn can protect a player from major threats, visibility makes decision-making clearer.
The update also lets players stop a slipstream by braking before the slipstream begins. This is useful because slipstream boosts are not always helpful. On narrow sections or near obstacles, unwanted extra speed can push a racer into a poor line.
New Ramp Added Between Airship Fortress and Bowser’s Castle
Nintendo has added a ramp to the race that heads from Airship Fortress to Bowser’s Castle. Course additions like this can change the rhythm of a route, especially if the ramp creates a better jump angle, gliding opportunity or recovery option.
For players trying to master Knockout Tour routes, even one added ramp can be worth learning. It may create a faster line or provide an easier way to maintain momentum through a difficult transition.
Thai Language Support Added
Mario Kart World now includes Thai language support. Players can change the language through System Settings > System > Language on Nintendo Switch 2.
This is a smaller note compared with the new routes and gameplay tuning, but it expands accessibility for players who prefer Thai system-language support.
Time Trial Fix May Affect Ghost Rankings
One of the most important fixes in version 1.7.0 involves Time Trials. Nintendo fixed an issue where the time after crossing the finish line could be incorrect.
The company also notes that Time Trial ghosts affected by this issue may be removed from View Rankings without notice. Competitive players should pay attention to that detail, especially if they track leaderboard placements or compare ghost data after updates.
Online and Wireless Play Fixes
The patch fixes an issue where players could not get on a helicopter in Online Play and Wireless Play. That kind of bug can disrupt multiplayer sessions, so the fix should make those race situations smoother.
Nintendo also fixed a vehicle-specific Bob-omb issue. When riding the Standard Bike or W-Twin Chopper, players previously could not throw a Bob-omb behind them as far as they could while riding other vehicles. Version 1.7.0 addresses that inconsistency.
Several issues involving Bullet Bill have also been fixed, though Nintendo groups those fixes together rather than breaking down every individual case.
Major Course and Object Fixes
The update includes a long list of fixes tied to specific courses, objects and race routes. Nintendo fixed an issue where a Spiny Shell would break if it hit a gold block or a broadcast van.
In Bowser’s Castle, a bug that allowed players to slip through walls has been fixed. In Dandelion Depths, Nintendo fixed an issue where players could stay caught on an electronic sign. Another Dandelion Depths fix addresses a problem where using a Feather after a Jump Boost could cause the player to fall off the course.
The update also fixes an issue where players could fall after jumping on a parasol in the race heading to Salty Salty Speedway. A separate fix addresses players falling off the course while using the shortcut route from Koopa Troopa Beach to Dino Dino Jungle.
Peach Stadium, Shy Guy Bazaar and Dry Bones Burnout Fixes
Nintendo fixed an issue where a player could have two coins taken at once in the race heading east from Peach Stadium. Coin handling can affect speed and position, so this fix matters beyond a simple visual correction.
In the race from Cheep Cheep Falls to Dandelion Depths, a rail-riding issue has been fixed. Previously, performing a Jump Boost while rail riding could cause the player to fall from the rail.
At Shy Guy Bazaar, Nintendo fixed a problem where a player could hit the pole at a shop and become unable to move. Around Dry Bones Burnout, the update fixes an issue where Dry Bones could fall through the ground.
The patch also addresses a problem in the race heading from Wario Shipyard to DK Pass or Cheep Cheep Falls, where players could fall off the course while driving along the edge.
Nintendo also fixed situations where players could be returned very far in front after falling off the course on various tracks. The company adds that several other issues have been addressed to improve the overall gameplay experience.

What Changes Most for Players
For casual players, the most visible changes will likely be the two new Knockout Tour rallies and the new sticker feature in Photo Mode. These are easy to notice immediately after updating.
For more competitive players, the bigger story may be the balance tuning. Better acceleration for low-acceleration builds, faster gliding for selected characters and vehicles, visible Super Horns, item-box adjustments and improved recovery after certain hits could all affect race decisions.
The update also makes several course sections more reliable by fixing bugs that caused players to fall, get stuck, clip through walls or respawn in unusual positions. That should make races feel more consistent, especially in online and elimination-style play.
How to Install Mario Kart World Update 1.7.0
Players should connect their Nintendo Switch 2 system to the internet and allow Mario Kart World to update. If the update does not begin automatically, it can be started manually through the software options menu on the console.
Players using multiplayer should update as soon as possible because racers need the same software version to play together. With new Knockout Tour routes, Photo Mode stickers, gameplay tuning, Thai language support and a wide set of fixes, version 1.7.0 is a substantial update for Mario Kart World players.
