November 3, 2026 — Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) pre-loading begins November 10, giving PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players nine days to download the game before its November 19 release. The installation requires up to 212GB of storage, meaning many console owners may need to clear space before downloading.
The announcement also confirms different download times for PlayStation and Xbox, November 12 availability for code-in-box editions, and a free downloadable map of Leonida arriving on launch day.
GTA 6 Pre-Load Date, Time and File Size
According to Rockstar Games’ official November 3 announcement, digital pre-loading begins Tuesday, November 10.
| Detail | Confirmed Information |
|---|---|
| PS5 pre-load | November 10, midnight local time |
| Xbox Series X|S | November 10, 12 a.m. GMT |
| Storage required | Up to 212GB |
| Code-in-box editions | Available from November 12 |
| Official release | November 19, 2026 |
| Platforms | PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
The November 10 schedule moves digital pre-loading forward by two days from the previously announced November 12 date. Players can install the files early, but cannot begin playing before the official release.
GTA 6 Pre-Load Times in the US, UK, India and Australia
PlayStation downloads begin at midnight in each region. Xbox downloads open simultaneously worldwide, meaning some players can start on November 9 in their local time zones.
| Region | Xbox Download Time |
|---|---|
| US Eastern | Nov. 9, 7 p.m. EST |
| US Pacific | Nov. 9, 4 p.m. PST |
| United Kingdom | Nov. 10, 12 a.m. GMT |
| India | Nov. 10, 5:30 a.m. IST |
| Sydney, Australia | Nov. 10, 11 a.m. AEDT |
PS5 users in these regions can begin at midnight local time on November 10.
GTA 6 Requires Up to 212GB of Storage
Rockstar says storage requirements may vary by device. PlayStation advises PS5 owners to reserve at least 212GB before pre-loading.
That represents approximately 21% of a nominal 1TB drive, although actual usable console storage is lower. Players may need to uninstall older games or expand compatible internal storage.
At a sustained 100Mbps download speed, transferring 212GB would take approximately five hours under ideal conditions. Slower connections or network congestion could extend that considerably.
The announced 212GB requirement does not necessarily represent the final installed size after future updates.
How to Pre-Load GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox
Players should confirm their digital pre-orders, check available storage and enable automatic downloads before November 10.
- PS5: Sign in to PlayStation Network, confirm the pre-order and check automatic download settings.
- Xbox Series X|S: Confirm the purchase, enable automatic updates and check the installation queue when pre-loading opens.
- Both platforms: Maintain a stable internet connection and sufficient free storage.
PlayStation recommends keeping account information updated and configuring Rest Mode downloads where appropriate.
GTA 6 Boxed Editions Arrive November 12
Rockstar says code-in-box editions should become available from retailers beginning November 12. These packages contain a digital download code rather than a game disc.
Customers purchasing boxed copies will therefore still need internet access and sufficient storage. Retailer availability and code delivery times may vary.
GTA 6 Ultimate Edition and Pre-Order Bonuses
The Ultimate Edition includes premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and additional content connected to protagonists Jason and Lucia.
Eligible digital purchases also include the Vintage Vice City Pack and a one-month GTA+ membership offer, subject to applicable terms. Players should check regional storefronts before purchasing.
GTA 6 Returns to Vice City and Leonida
Grand Theft Auto VI follows Jason and Lucia across Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional Florida-inspired state featuring Vice City and surrounding communities.
The game also expands its music offerings, with new stations, podcasts and portable listening. Details about the GTA 6 radio stations and celebrity hosts provide additional background on the soundtrack.
