Brisbane Weather Today: Showers, 22°C Start and Overcast Weekend Ahead

Brisbane is starting the day under cloud with showers in the mix, as a stretch of unsettled weather settles in across southeast Queensland. Forecasts point to an overcast weekend with intermittent rain and breezy conditions, followed by a generally showery pattern that may linger into next week.

Brisbane weather right now

Conditions on the ground are staying on the damp side, with a light rain shower reported early and temperatures sitting around 22°C. The day is expected to bring sunny periods at times, but cloud will build again later, setting up a cloudier night.

Showers continue after overnight rain

Overnight showers delivered widespread totals across the region. Brisbane generally picked up 5–15mm, while Logan and northern Brisbane saw 20–40mm. The Sunshine Coast recorded the heaviest falls, with totals reaching up to 90mm in places.

Forecasters say the more sustained overnight rain came from a deeper pocket of moisture moving across the area. As slightly drier air edges in, showers are expected to become shorter, patchier and lighter overall through the weekend.

Wind gusts lifted near the bay and islands

Along with the showers, gusty winds were a feature overnight. Many areas clocked gusts around 50–60km/h, while exposed coastal spots near the bay and offshore islands saw gusts reach 80–90km/h.

Weekend outlook: nuisance showers, not a washout

Saturday and Sunday are expected to stay unsettled, with isolated showers popping up at times. Rainfall totals look modest for most suburbs, typically a few millimetres, with Sunday more likely to be showery than Saturday. Even so, any bursts could still disrupt outdoor plans, especially during the morning and early afternoon.

Temperatures turn milder into early March

Temperatures are expected to remain on the mild side, hovering in the high 20s. That’s closer to seasonal norms as Brisbane moves toward March, and a touch cooler than the low 30s experienced over recent days.

February has been much drier than normal

Despite the current wet spell, February has tracked well below typical rainfall levels. Brisbane usually records around 170mm during February, but the city has been running closer to about 60mm so far — roughly 10–20% of what’s normally expected. Conditions have been even drier further west, making the recent showers welcome for gardens and yards, even if totals remain below average overall.

Next week: showery pattern likely to linger

Looking ahead, forecasters expect a continuation of generally showery conditions next week, though rainfall is likely to stay relatively light. The theme remains the same: overcast spells, occasional sunny breaks, and showers that come and go rather than a prolonged deluge.
