Coles has launched two money-saving promotions for Australian shoppers, combining a short 10% discount on eligible Coles eGift Cards with a six-week Shop, Scan, Win campaign carrying almost $3.4 million in prizes.
The offers started on August 12 but have very different deadlines. The eGift Card discount ends at 5pm AEST on Thursday, August 13, while Shop, Scan, Win continues until September 22.
For shoppers already planning to spend at Coles, the gift card deal provides a direct saving. The Flybuys-linked Shop, Scan, Win promotion is different: eligible customers get a chance to win between $5 and $100 off their groceries.
How the Coles 10% eGift Card deal works
Eligible Coles eGift Cards are available at 10% off through GiftCards.com.au during the promotional period, with a maximum order value of $2,500 per day.
At that maximum, a shopper would pay $2,250 for $2,500 worth of eligible gift card value — a $250 saving. Smaller purchases deliver proportionate savings: $100 in eligible gift card value would cost $90, while $500 would cost $450.
The $250 figure therefore represents the maximum saving on the daily purchase limit, not an amount every shopper needs to spend to access the promotion.
Customers considering a large purchase should first check Coles’ official promotional terms. Redemption restrictions matter, particularly for households that primarily shop online, and gift cards should not be treated in the same way as cash.
$3.4 million Shop, Scan, Win campaign begins
Coles is simultaneously running Shop, Scan, Win from August 12 until September 22. Eligible registered Flybuys members can enter after spending at least $20 in a qualifying transaction and scanning or linking their Flybuys account.
Prizes are worth $5, $15, $20, $50 or $100 off shopping. The maximum prize pool is approximately $3.4 million, with more than 217,000 prizes available across the in-store and online components. Coles says more than 36,000 winners can receive prizes each week.
Not every purchase necessarily contributes to the $20 qualifying spend, so shoppers should check the exclusions in the promotion terms. New Flybuys members should also make sure their registration has been completed.
In-store and online customers have different entry systems
Eligible in-store shoppers can find out immediately whether they have won through the checkout process or their receipt. There is generally a maximum of one in-store prize per Flybuys account per day.
Coles Online customers do not receive an instant result. Eligible online transactions are entered into weekly prize draws, with winners receiving promotional codes by email for use on a future eligible Coles Online order.
There are six weekly online draws during the campaign. Bonus entries may also be available when qualifying transactions include products from participating brands, subject to the competition rules.
Eligible Coles Credit Card customers can potentially receive an additional entry when they make a qualifying purchase and scan the Flybuys account linked to their active card. Extra entries increase a shopper’s chances but do not guarantee a prize.

Why Coles is putting savings at the centre of its promotion
The campaign arrives while Australian households remain highly conscious of grocery costs. Even smaller supermarket charges have drawn attention, including a change affecting digital customers explained in this breakdown of Coles’ $2 online bagging fee.
Coles and Woolworths are also facing greater scrutiny over pricing practices. Changes introduced from July 1 have added to the wider debate over supermarket prices and value, with Australia’s supermarket pricing rules for Coles and Woolworths providing broader context for consumers following the issue.
The timing also coincides with attention around Woolworths’ Disney-themed Ooshies collectibles. Coles previously offered its Little Shop collectibles but discontinued them more than five years ago as it sought to reduce unnecessary plastic. Its current campaign instead puts direct discounts and grocery prizes at the centre of its customer offer.
What shoppers should know before spending
The two Coles offers should not be confused. The eGift Card promotion provides a defined 10% discount on an eligible purchase, while Shop, Scan, Win is a game-of-chance promotion and an eligible $20 transaction does not guarantee a prize.
The headline $250 gift card saving also requires purchasing $2,500 in eligible value. That may suit households that already expect to spend heavily at Coles, but buying more credit than needed simply to maximise the discount can lock a substantial amount of money into future supermarket spending.
For shoppers interested in the gift card deal, the key deadline is 5pm AEST on August 13. Those participating in Shop, Scan, Win have until September 22, subject to Flybuys eligibility, qualifying-spend rules and the separate conditions governing prize redemption.
