Thousands of commuters across the Greater Toronto Area are expected to face a difficult weekend of travel after Metrolinx confirmed major GO Transit closures affecting nearly 150 kilometres of rail service on May 30 and 31, 2026.
The disruption will impact both the entire Barrie GO Line and a major portion of the Lakeshore West Line, temporarily shutting down train access at 18 stations across the regional transit network.
According to Metrolinx, the closures are tied to ongoing GO Expansion construction work, with replacement bus service operating throughout the weekend.
Entire Barrie GO Line shutting down
The biggest disruption will hit the Barrie GO Line, where all train service will be suspended for the entire weekend. More than 101 kilometres of rail track and 11 stations will be taken out of service between Allandale Waterfront GO and Highway 407 Bus Terminal.
GO buses will replace trains between Allandale Waterfront GO and Highway 407 Bus Terminal. Riders travelling farther south toward downtown Toronto will need to transfer to TTC service to complete their trip.
The timing of the closure could create additional pressure for concertgoers travelling into Toronto for Bruno Mars’ final May 30 and 31 performances at Rogers Stadium. Downsview GO, one of the key stations for event traffic, will be closed during the outage.

Lakeshore West riders also affected
Metrolinx is also shutting down a 45-kilometre section of the Lakeshore West Line between Aldershot and Mimico. Seven stations along the route will lose train service for the weekend.
Replacement GO buses will stop at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville and Clarkson GO stations before continuing to Bramalea GO. From Bramalea, passengers can connect eastbound through the Kitchener Line to reach Union Station.
Transit riders are being encouraged to leave extra travel time because replacement buses are expected to increase commute lengths, especially during busy afternoon and evening periods.
Despite the large regional disruption, Toronto subway riders may avoid additional problems this weekend. The TTC has not scheduled any major subway closures that overlap with the GO shutdowns, reducing the chance of broader transit congestion inside the city.
Metrolinx has advised passengers to review schedules and route changes before travelling through the official GO Transit service updates page.
