iPhone 17e Launches at $599 With A19 Chip, 48MP Camera & 256GB Storage – Full Specs and Release Date

Apple’s iPhone 17e is official, and the pitch is straightforward: flagship-class speed and camera capability at a lower entry price, with double the starting storage and a full MagSafe ecosystem. Apple says the iPhone 17e joins the iPhone 17 family as its most affordable model, starting at $599 with 256GB (and a 512GB option), with pre-orders beginning Wednesday, March 4 and retail availability starting Wednesday, March 11.

Apple’s announcement emphasizes three pillars: the latest Apple silicon, a big camera upgrade anchored by a 48MP sensor, and durability improvements that target long-term ownership. The company’s full release is available via Apple Newsroom.

Price and storage: $599 now starts at 256GB

The headline value move is storage. iPhone 17e begins at 256GB for $599, which Apple frames as 2x the entry storage of the prior generation at the same starting price. For buyers, the practical benefit is more headroom for high-resolution photos, 4K video, apps, games, and offline downloads without immediately needing cloud storage upgrades.

Apple says iPhone 17e will be sold in black, white, and a new soft pink, all with a matte finish. Storage configurations include 256GB and 512GB, with financing referenced at $24.95 per month for 24 months in the U.S.

A19 chip and C1X modem: speed, efficiency, and battery focus

At the center of iPhone 17e is Apple’s latest-generation A19 chip, built on 3-nanometer technology. Apple highlights a faster, more efficient 6-core CPU that’s up to 2x faster than iPhone 11, paired with a 4-core GPU designed for more demanding graphics workloads. The company also points to a 16-core Neural Engine and “Neural Accelerators” integrated into the GPU, targeting quicker on-device AI workflows.

Connectivity is handled by C1X, Apple’s latest-generation modem. Apple says C1X is up to 2x faster than the C1 used in iPhone 16e and is engineered for efficiency, using 30% less energy than the modem in iPhone 16 Pro. That efficiency, combined with iOS power management, is positioned as a contributor to all-day battery life.

Display and durability: Ceramic Shield 2 and IP68

iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 1200 nits peak HDR brightness, aiming for better visibility outdoors and strong HDR performance for streaming and gaming. For durability, Apple highlights Ceramic Shield 2, claiming 3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation and reduced glare via improved anti-reflection.

The chassis uses aerospace-grade aluminum and carries an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance. Face ID remains the biometric standard, while the Action button enables quick access to frequently used functions such as flashlight and other shortcuts.

Camera: 48MP Fusion with optical-quality 2x Telephoto

Apple is putting real weight behind the camera system at this price tier. The iPhone 17e’s 48MP Fusion camera supports sharp captures up to 48MP, while also offering a 24MP default mode intended to balance detail with manageable file sizes for sharing and storage.

A key feature is an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option created from the 48MP sensor—Apple describes it as “two cameras in one,” enabling tighter framing without the typical quality drop associated with digital zoom. Portrait performance is also emphasized: the device can recognize subjects including people, dogs, and cats, saving depth data that lets users apply or adjust background blur after capture and refine the focus point inside the Photos app.

On the video side, iPhone 17e records in 4K Dolby Vision up to 60 fps. Apple also highlights Spatial Audio recording for immersive playback with supported devices, plus Audio Mix controls and machine-learning-based wind noise reduction for cleaner dialogue and ambient sound.

Charging and MagSafe: faster wireless, bigger accessory ecosystem

Charging is framed as both fast and flexible. With USB-C fast charging, Apple says iPhone 17e can reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter. Wireless charging supports MagSafe and Qi2 up to 15W, and Apple points to the broader accessory ecosystem—cases, wallets, stands, and chargers—designed to snap into place with reliable alignment.

Satellite features and safety: staying connected off the grid

iPhone 17e includes Apple’s satellite-based safety and communication tools for times when cellular and Wi-Fi aren’t available. These include Messages via satellite, Emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance via satellite, and Find My via satellite for location sharing. Apple also includes Crash Detection, which can detect severe car crashes and automatically contact emergency services if the user is unresponsive.

iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence: translation, screening, and visual tools

Out of the box, iPhone 17e runs iOS 26, which Apple says introduces a refreshed look and new Apple Intelligence capabilities. Highlights include Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime, Phone, and with AirPods on supported devices; expanded visual intelligence that can act on what’s displayed on-screen; and productivity-oriented tools like Call Screening for unknown numbers and Hold Assist for waiting on the line until a live agent is available.

Environment: recycled materials and Apple 2030 goals

Apple positions iPhone 17e inside its broader “Apple 2030” carbon-neutral roadmap. The device is made with 30% recycled content, including 85% recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery. Apple says manufacturing uses 55% renewable electricity across the supply chain and that the packaging is 100% fiber-based for easier recycling.

Availability and trade-in offers

Apple says iPhone 17e will be available in more than 70 countries and regions, including the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and others, with pre-orders opening March 4 and sales beginning March 11. Apple also highlights multiple upgrade paths, including carrier credits and Apple Trade In values that can reduce upfront costs depending on device and region.
