What is Mega Millions?
Mega Millions is a lottery played in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Official rules and game details are available via the Mega Millions website.

Each ticket costs $5. Players choose six numbers from two pools: five different numbers from 1 to 70 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 24 (the gold Mega Ball), or they can select Easy Pick/Quick Pick.

You win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing. If multiple tickets match all six numbers, the jackpot prize is shared.

How to play the Mega Millions
To play, you need to buy a ticket. Tickets are sold in many places, including convenience stores, gas stations and grocery stores. In some states, Mega Millions tickets can be bought online.

After you purchase a ticket, pick six numbers: five white balls from 1 to 70 and one gold Mega Ball from 1 to 24. If you prefer not to choose your own numbers, you can request a Quick Pick or Easy Pick, which generates numbers randomly.

Mega Millions tickets now include a built-in multiplier that increases non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x. Previously, players had to pay an extra dollar to add the “Megaplier.”
