Mitchell Freeway Crash in Perth Leaves Motorcyclist Seriously Injured After Truck Collision

A motorcyclist in his 40s has been seriously injured after a collision with a rubbish truck on Perth’s Mitchell Freeway during the early morning commute on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

St John Ambulance attended the scene at about 5:50am and treated the rider on the freeway before transferring him under priority one conditions to Royal Perth Hospital, where he arrived at 6:43am, according to reporting by The West Australian.

Traffic disruption and reopening

The crash triggered heavy congestion across the northern corridor, with motorists reporting delays of roughly 30 to 35 minutes while emergency crews worked at the scene. Traffic remained backed up for several kilometres before the freeway reopened, though heavy conditions persisted afterward.

Main Roads advised drivers to consider alternative routes by exiting at Ocean Reef Road or accessing the freeway via the Warwick Road on-ramp while the incident response was underway.

Witness account and investigation

Photos from the aftermath showed police markings around the rubbish truck and motorcycle, with debris scattered across the roadway. A driver caught in the traffic described the scene as confronting, saying it appeared responders needed to stabilise the rider before moving him.

Police have not yet released further details on the circumstances leading to the crash. Investigations are ongoing.
