Netflix has unveiled the first-ever real-life Scooby-Doo, giving fans their first look at the canine star of Scooby-Doo: Origins, a live-action prequel series scheduled to premiere worldwide in 2027. The reveal has generated significant buzz among longtime fans because it marks the first time in the franchise’s 56-year history that Scooby-Doo will be portrayed by a real dog.
The streamer released a short teaser filmed largely from Scooby’s point of view, featuring the sound of running paws and barking before the young Great Dane excitedly leaps into the arms of Shaggy Rogers. Netflix also shared an official image of the puppy wearing Scooby’s iconic teal collar, offering the clearest look yet at the beloved character’s live-action appearance.
The Mystery That Brings Mystery Inc. Together
Scooby-Doo: Origins is a modern reimagining of the classic Hanna-Barbera franchise and explores the case that first unites the future members of Mystery Inc. The story follows old friends Shaggy Rogers, played by Tanner Hagen, and Daphne Blake, played by Mckenna Grace, during their final summer at camp.
The pair become caught up in a chilling mystery involving a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. They are joined by the pragmatic and scientific Velma Dinkley, played by Abby Ryder Fortson, and the strange but charming new kid Fred Jones, played by Maxwell Jenkins. Together, they investigate a case that threatens to expose their deepest secrets while pulling them into a terrifying nightmare.
Additional cast member Paul Walter Hauser has been confirmed in an undisclosed role. Fans can learn more about the actors joining the project through the Scooby-Doo: Origins cast announcement.
