North Carolina Ticket Wins $209.3 Million Powerball Jackpot in Wednesday Night Drawing

North Carolina Ticket Wins $209.3 Million Powerball Jackpot in Wednesday Night Drawing

A single lottery ticket purchased in Roanoke Rapids has claimed the $209.3 million Powerball jackpot, ending a nationwide wait for a winning ticket after weeks of rollovers.

Officials with the North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that the winning ticket was sold at West 10th Mart on West 10th Street in Roanoke Rapids and matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers drawn on Wednesday, January 21, were 11, 26, 27, 53, and 55, with a Powerball of 12. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.

Lottery officials said the ticket holder has 180 days from the date of the draw to come forward and claim the prize.

Jackpot payout options

As with all Powerball jackpots, the winner will be given a choice between two payout options. The advertised jackpot offers an annuity prize of $209.3 million, paid out in 30 graduated installments over 29 years, or a lump-sum cash option valued at approximately $95.3 million before federal and state taxes.

North Carolina allows lottery winners to remain anonymous, a provision that has often delayed the public identification of jackpot winners in the state.

Sixth Powerball jackpot win for North Carolina

According to lottery officials, this marks the sixth time a Powerball jackpot has been won in North Carolina, adding Roanoke Rapids to the growing list of towns across the country linked to major lottery wins.

The previous Powerball jackpot was claimed less than a month ago, when a single ticket sold in Cabot, Arkansas, won a record-setting $1.82 billion prize on Christmas Eve — the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

What happens next for Powerball

With the jackpot now claimed, the Powerball prize resets to an estimated $20 million for the next drawing, scheduled for Saturday, January 24, with a cash value of about $9.1 million.

Powerball drawings are held three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday — at 10:59 p.m. ET.

A single Powerball ticket costs $2, with an optional $1 Power Play add-on, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes. The odds of winning the jackpot remain 1 in 292.2 million.

For now, one ticket in Roanoke Rapids has beaten those odds — and secured one of the first major lottery wins of 2026.
