North Texas Weather Alert: Flood Watch in Effect Today as Heavy Rain Targets DFW — Thanksgiving Forecast Also Released

North Texas woke to an active weather morning on Monday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth issuing a Flood Watch through 3 PM for much of the region. Forecast maps show widespread rainfall, flash-flood potential, and a secondary round of severe storm risks later in the day.

The alert covers Wise, Denton, Parker, Tarrant, Jack and surrounding counties. Early-morning radar indicated clusters of heavy rainfall tracking through Weatherford, Bridgeport, Springtown, Alvord, Decatur and portions of the western DFW corridor.

Flash Flood Threat: 1–3 Inches of Rain, Up to 4 Inches in Isolated Zones

According to the NWS update issued around 2:54 a.m., periodic heavy rain will continue through the morning hours, posing a risk of flash flooding across low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Expected rainfall totals:

  • 1 to 3 inches for most of North Texas
  • Up to 4 inches possible in isolated locations north of I-20

Communities from Graham to DFW, Sherman, Paris, Stephenville and Canton fall within the primary Flood Watch zone. Drivers are urged to follow the standard safety reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

Severe Storms Likely This Afternoon South of I-20

A separate NWS map issued at 3:11 a.m. highlights a second threat window developing later today — this time for severe thunderstorms, especially south of I-20 and east of I-35.

Afternoon and evening hazards may include:

  • Large hail
  • Damaging wind gusts
  • One or two isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out

Storms are expected to move west to east through the afternoon before exiting the region later tonight.
