The Go Bowling Military Bowl brings together two evenly matched programs on Saturday morning, but the spotlight in Annapolis will fall squarely on who is available — and who is not — when the Pittsburgh Panthers meet the East Carolina Pirates.

With kickoff set for 11 a.m. ET at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, roster movement, late injuries and quarterback uncertainty have become central to how this game may unfold.

The Quarterback Question

East Carolina enters the bowl without its expected starter. Katin Houser, who guided the Pirates through much of the season, entered the transfer portal earlier this month and will not play. That decision places the offense in the hands of Michael Wright Jr., a redshirt senior making his first start for ECU.

Wright steps into a challenging role against a Pittsburgh defense that, while inconsistent late in the season, still brings size and pressure up front. How quickly he settles into the rhythm of a nationally televised bowl game could shape ECU’s ability to keep pace.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, does not face the same uncertainty under center, but the Panthers are looking for a steadier offensive showing after closing the regular season with a lopsided loss to Miami.

Major Absences on Both Sides

Pittsburgh will be without one of its most important defensive leaders. Linebacker Kyle Louis, a two-time All-ACC selection, has opted out of the bowl. His absence removes experience and leadership from the middle of the Panthers’ defense, an area East Carolina may look to test early.

The Panthers also arrive with a lengthy injury report. Several contributors are ruled out, while others are listed as questionable, creating uncertainty across multiple position groups as kickoff approaches.

East Carolina Injury Report: Who’s Available?

East Carolina arrives at the Military Bowl dealing with a lengthy injury list that could impact both sides of the ball. Several players have already been ruled out, while others remain questionable heading into kickoff.

The Pirates will be without Hines, Spalding, Lampley, Lacy, Carr, and Jones, all of whom are sidelined through injury.

In addition, Askew, Pearson, Brown, McIver, and Reason are listed as questionable, making their availability uncertain as game time approaches.

Momentum vs. Matchup

On paper, Pittsburgh arrives with the more explosive offense, averaging more than 30 points per game during the season. East Carolina counters with recent momentum, having won four of its last five outings and returning to the Military Bowl for a second straight year.

The programs have not met since 1992, with their all-time series tied at two wins apiece. That long gap adds a layer of unpredictability to a matchup already shaped by last-minute roster changes.

As bowl season often proves, motivation, preparation and adaptability can matter as much as talent. With key players missing and new faces stepping into major roles, this game may come down to which side adjusts fastest once the ball is in play.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, with additional coverage and streaming options available through major sports platforms including ESPN’s college football hub and live score tracking from Yahoo Sports.
