MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — When Miami needed a response on college football’s biggest stage, Malachi Toney delivered it with authority.
In Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship against Indiana, Toney ripped off an electrifying 22-yard touchdown run to pull the Miami Hurricanes back within three points, reigniting the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium and keeping the title fight alive deep into the fourth quarter.
The score came moments after Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza stunned the stadium with an improvisational fourth-and-five scramble touchdown, pushing the Hoosiers ahead 24–14 with just over nine minutes remaining. Rather than folding, Miami answered immediately — this time through its freshman star.
