Baltimore County police said officers were investigating a shooting in the 8000 block of York Road. The injured man was taken to a hospital, but authorities had not publicly released his identity or condition in the latest confirmed information.
The shooting occurred close enough to Towson University to trigger an immediate campus safety response, affecting students, faculty, staff and visitors while officers searched the surrounding area.
Towson University sent first alert at about 7:20 p.m.
Towson University Public Safety sent an emergency alert at approximately 7:20 p.m., reporting a shooting at 8013 York Road and telling members of the university community to avoid the area.
As the police response developed, the university issued a campus-wide shelter-in-place order. People on campus were instructed to remain indoors, close and secure windows and doors, report suspicious activity and wait for further instructions.
Towson University’s official emergency communications guidance says alerts may be sent when urgent safety concerns occur on or near campus. Students, faculty and staff automatically receive emergency notifications by text and university email.
Cardiff Hall Apartments became focus of investigation
A later university notice said the shooting investigation was underway around Cardiff Hall Apartments along York Road and that police were searching the area for suspect or suspects.
The location is directly beside the Towson University area, making the distinction between the shooting scene and the campus important. Available information did not establish that the man was shot inside the university campus itself.
Instead, the shooting was reported along York Road, while the emergency response extended onto and around university property.
Related police activity reported near Osler Drive
Towson University also reported additional police activity near Osler Drive on campus and said it was connected to the shooting investigation.
That activity was particularly important for students already sheltering indoors because it showed the police operation had expanded beyond the original York Road location.
The university continued advising the campus community to remain sheltered while law enforcement investigated.

Victim hospitalized as key details remain unknown
Baltimore County police confirmed that a man had been injured and transported to a hospital. Authorities had not disclosed his age, medical condition or whether he had any connection to Towson University.
Police also had not publicly explained what led to the shooting, whether the victim and shooter knew one another, or how many people investigators were seeking.
No confirmed suspect description or arrest had been announced in the information available at the time.
Reports circulating during the emergency also included additional claims about evidence recovered and specialized police resources. Those details should not be treated as confirmed unless Baltimore County police or another official agency verifies them.
Shelter order reflects threat close to campus
Towson University’s emergency procedures specifically state that shelter-in-place measures may be used when a criminal or violent act occurs at the university or in areas near campus. The guidance tells people to move into a secure room, lock or barricade doors if possible, stay away from windows and remain inside until law enforcement provides an all-clear.
Similar emergency responses have occurred at other colleges when violence happened near students or university property. A recent shooting near Notre Dame prompted a shelter-in-place response while police worked to secure the surrounding area.
Another campus emergency at SUNY Westchester Community College left three people injured and led to a significant police response.
Students and families waiting for further updates
The main developments still being awaited include the hospitalized man’s condition, any arrest or suspect description, clarification of the circumstances surrounding the shooting and confirmation that the campus shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
Towson University Police can be reached at 410-704-4444 for campus emergencies or suspicious activity. Anyone facing an immediate emergency can also call 911.
The incident remained under investigation, and students and nearby residents were being urged to rely on official university and law-enforcement alerts as new information became available.
