Universal Kids Resort Opening

Universal Kids Resort Opening Date Revealed as Shrek, Minions and Jurassic World Head to Texas

Universal Kids Resort is now open in Frisco, Texas, after officially welcoming guests on July 1, 2026. Operated by Universal Destinations & Experiences, the regional theme park was designed primarily for families with children ages 3 to 8.

The resort features seven themed lands, child-friendly rides, water-play areas, live shows and character encounters. Unlike Universal’s larger parks in Florida and California, the Frisco destination concentrates on shorter, age-appropriate experiences rather than major thrill rides.

What is Universal Kids Resort?

Universal Kids Resort is the company’s first regional theme park created specifically for young children. The project took approximately three years to complete and uses characters from DreamWorks Animation, Illumination, Nickelodeon and Universal Pictures.

The park’s design combines rides with open play, shaded rest areas and sensory spaces. This gives families alternatives when children need a break from queues, music or more active attractions.

Which themed lands are open?

DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp features water play, character meetings and attractions including Shrek’s Swamp Splash and Smash and Shrek & Fiona’s Happily Ogre After.

Jurassic World Adventure Camp is the park’s main adventure area. It includes Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster, Mr. DNA’s Double Helix Spin, lookout towers and baby dinosaur encounters.

Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom brings locations such as Jellyfish Fields, Mussel Beach and Mrs. Puff’s Boating School into a play-focused setting.

Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club centres on a water-filled competition between Yellow Minions and Purple Minions. Families should expect children to get wet in this area.

DreamWorks’ TrollsFest includes Rhonda’s TrollsFest Express, Poppy’s Playland, music and dancing. A separately priced Troll-ify Me experience offers face paint and optional accessories.

DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar features Swings Over Del Mar, carnival games, a puppet performance, character encounters and a sensory garden.

Isle of Curiosity, featuring DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse, offers free-roam play, shaded seating, dining and a Gabby-themed dance party.

Universal Kids Resort ticket prices

According to the official Universal Kids Resort ticket page, one-day general admission currently starts at $54.99 per person plus tax. Two-day admission starts at $73.99 per person plus tax.

Those are starting prices for selected dates, not fixed rates for every visit. The amount charged can change according to the chosen date and availability. Children younger than two receive free admission.

Universal sells a Silver Annual Pass with 12 months of admission and another version that includes regular self-parking. Both are subject to restrictions, including blockout dates. The resort also closes on selected dates because it operates seasonally.

Hotel rooms and vacation packages

The 300-room Universal Kids Resort Hotel is located at the park entrance. Standard, deluxe and signature queen rooms can sleep up to five guests, while family suites can accommodate up to six.

Vacation packages can combine accommodation with several admission choices, including a 1½-day ticket. Eligible packages may provide entry one hour before the regular opening time for selected lands and attractions. Valid park admission is still required.

What families should check before visiting

Parents should review the operating calendar, daily hours and attraction height requirements before buying tickets. Not every ride is available to children of every height, even though the park is aimed at younger guests.

Several areas contain water features, so spare clothes may be useful. Frisco can also experience high summer temperatures, making sun protection, hydration and planned indoor or shaded breaks important.

Families considering an annual pass should compare their intended dates with the published blockout calendar. A pass may not provide entry on some weekends, holidays and high-demand periods.

Why the Frisco resort is different

The Texas park is smaller in scope and more narrowly focused than Universal Orlando Resort or Universal Studios Hollywood. Its combination of manageable attractions, play spaces and an entrance-side hotel is intended to make shorter visits easier for families with young children.

The opening is part of Universal’s broader expansion beyond its established destinations. The company opened Epic Universe in Orlando in 2025 and is moving ahead with plans for a Universal theme park and resort in Bedfordshire.

Ticket prices, operating dates and attraction availability can change. Families should confirm the latest information directly with Universal before travelling.
