Aberdeen have officially launched Stephen Robinsonâs summer rebuild with the triple signing of Lewis Mayo, Brad Lyons and Austrian midfielder Alexander Briedl.
The early transfer activity comes just days after club captain Graeme Shinnie confirmed his departure from Pittodrie to return to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in search of regular first-team football. Robinson is now reshaping the squad ahead of the new Scottish Premiership season, and Aberdeen supporters are already seeing major changes.
Scottish defender Lewis Mayo, 26, has signed a three-year contract after leaving Kilmarnock, while Northern Ireland midfielder Brad Lyons, 29, has agreed a two-year deal. Briedl, who currently plays for Austrian side Blau-Weiss Linz, will also join on a two-year contract once his current deal expires, subject to international clearance and a UK visa.
Alexander Briedl arrives after impressive spell in Austria
Briedl is viewed as one of the key additions in Robinsonâs first transfer window at Aberdeen. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder developed through the respected Red Bull Salzburg academy before continuing his career with FC Liefering and SV Horn.
He later established himself at Blau-Weiss Linz, where his energy, pressing ability and technical qualities earned attention. Aberdeen believe his style can adapt well to Scottish football, especially in Robinsonâs aggressive midfield system.
After completing his pre-contract paperwork, Briedl admitted the move happened quickly once Aberdeen made contact.
âIt feels amazing to be signing for Aberdeen,â he said. âI know Aberdeen are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland. Iâve watched some games and I know itâs physical here. Iâm looking forward to challenging myself in a new league.â
The former Austria Under-21 international also described himself as a technical player who enjoys pressing, winning the ball and helping the team control matches in midfield.

Robinson begins major squad rebuild
Manager Stephen Robinson said Aberdeen had been tracking Briedl closely and believes the midfielder brings many of the qualities the club want moving forward.
Robinson also praised Mayoâs consistency and professionalism, while describing Lyons as a player who adds leadership and a competitive edge to the dressing room.
The signings are part of a wider rebuild already underway at Pittodrie. Reports have linked midfielder Ante Palaversa with possible moves to Croatia, Belgium and South Korea, while Aberdeen continue reshaping the squad after a disappointing league campaign.
The Dons moved quickly in the market after missing out on Kilmarnock youngster David Watson, who is now expected to join Bolton Wanderers despite previous interest from Aberdeen.
By bringing in proven Premiership experience through Mayo and Lyons alongside a younger European midfielder in Briedl, Aberdeen appear focused on building a more balanced squad rather than relying on short-term fixes.
