LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Rams expect wide receiver Davante Adams to be available for Saturday’s playoff game against the Carolina Panthers, coach Sean McVay said Monday, signaling a major boost for an offense that has been without one of its most dangerous scoring threats.
Adams has not played since aggravating a left hamstring injury in Week 15. He returned to practice last Thursday for the first time since leaving that game and was listed as limited late in the week, but the Rams chose not to use him in their regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.
Why the Rams waited — and why McVay feels better now
McVay said the Rams “erred on the side of caution” with Adams’ return, acknowledging the decision didn’t go down easily with a player known for pushing to be on the field.
The coach added that Adams’ competitive streak showed throughout the process, but said he now sees the signs he looks for when a player is ready to go. McVay said the Rams feel more complete when Adams is in the formation — not only because of his production, but because of the coverage adjustments defenses are forced to make when he lines up.
In his first season in Los Angeles, Adams finished with 60 catches for 789 yards and a league-leading 14 receiving touchdowns. According to ESPN Research, Adams is the first player in NFL history to lead the league in receiving touchdowns with three different teams.
More injury reinforcements for the playoff push
McVay also said the Rams anticipate getting safety Quentin Lake (elbow) and tight end Terrance Ferguson (hamstring) back against the Panthers, offering additional help on both sides of the ball as Los Angeles enters the postseason.
With the playoff stage raising the stakes on every possession, Adams’ expected return would give the Rams another proven red-zone finisher and a player who can tilt coverages, open space for teammates, and punish mistakes. Final availability will depend on the week’s practice progression, but McVay’s message Monday was clear: the Rams expect Adams to be part of the plan against Carolina.
