School Bus Crash in Sydney’s West Leaves Students Injured After Vehicle Slams Into Tree

A school bus carrying students crashed into a tree in Western Sydney’s Erskine Park on Thursday afternoon, triggering a major emergency response involving police, paramedics and fire crews.

The incident happened on Erskine Park Road at about 1pm. Authorities confirmed the bus was transporting school students at the time of the crash.

According to Fire and Rescue New South Wales, all students were safely taken off the bus after the collision and assessed by paramedics at the scene. Emergency services reported that some children suffered minor injuries, although no serious injuries have been confirmed.

The bus driver became trapped inside the vehicle for a short period following the impact. Fire crews worked to free the driver before paramedics continued medical assessments.

Aerial images from the crash site showed the white bus heavily damaged after slamming into a roadside tree, with large branches scattered across the road and surrounding area.

Emergency services respond to Erskine Park school bus crash

NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW and officials from the Department of Education all attended the scene shortly after the crash was reported.

Authorities established a safety perimeter around the damaged vehicle while students were moved away from the roadway and checked by medical crews. Parents and nearby residents gathered in the area as emergency teams worked to secure the scene.

Traffic disruptions were reported along Erskine Park Road during the emergency response, with motorists advised to avoid the area while recovery operations continued.

At this stage, officials have not confirmed what caused the bus to leave the road and crash into the tree. Investigators are expected to examine several factors, including road conditions, the condition of the vehicle and whether the driver experienced a medical episode before the collision.

Relief after no serious injuries reported

While the crash caused significant concern because children were involved, authorities said the situation could have been far worse. The fact that no serious injuries were immediately reported will come as a major relief for families and the wider school community.

School transport safety remains a sensitive issue across Australia, particularly after several high-profile bus crashes in recent years. Swikblog recently covered the Bruce Highway bus crash near Bowen, which renewed debate around passenger safety and emergency response standards.

Officials are expected to release more details once the investigation into the Erskine Park crash progresses. The original reporting on the incident was published by ABC News.
