Infinity Ward has officially revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, confirming one of the most talked-about gaming leaks of the year and setting the stage for a darker, more global conflict-driven campaign centered around the Korean Peninsula.
The game launches on October 23, 2026, and will release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, Battle.net and, notably, Nintendo Switch 2. The reveal immediately pushed âModern Warfare 4â into trending searches worldwide as fans reacted to the return of Captain Price, the comeback of DMZ, and the franchiseâs new Korea war setting.
According to details shared by Infinity Ward, the campaign takes place shortly after the events of Modern Warfare III. Captain Price is no longer operating within the system after the controversial decisions he made at the end of the previous game. Instead, Modern Warfare 4 explores a more dangerous and isolated version of Price as he continues his pursuit of Vladimir Makarov while a larger global conflict begins to unfold.
Korea conflict becomes the center of the new campaign
The story reportedly begins with North Korea launching a major invasion that destabilizes the region and drags multiple world powers into war. Players will fight through locations including Korea, Paris, New York City and Mumbai, with Infinity Ward promising large-scale battles, trench warfare, stealth raids, vehicle combat and cinematic chase sequences.
The game also introduces several new squad members including Park, Jay, Cho and Moon, alongside American Marines embedded with South Korean forces. Developers said the goal was to create a more grounded and culturally authentic experience by working closely with Korean team members, voice actors and consultants throughout development.
In an interview published on the official PlayStation Blog, Infinity Ward described the campaign as a return to the cinematic, large-scale warfare style that originally made the Modern Warfare series popular.

DMZ returns with extraction gameplay and dynamic combat zones
Modern Warfare 4 is also bringing back DMZ, the extraction-based mode that developed a strong community during the Modern Warfare II cycle. Infinity Ward says players will enter changing combat zones where weather, military objectives and enemy forces evolve during matches, creating unpredictable encounters and higher-risk extraction gameplay.
On the multiplayer side, the studio is introducing a new combat system called Ballistic Authority, designed around more realistic aiming, weapon movement, bullet trajectory and audio positioning. Multiplayer launches with 12 core 6v6 maps, Gunfight arenas and larger âBig Warâ maps featuring infantry and vehicle combat.
The reveal is already generating strong community discussion because it combines classic Modern Warfare themes with modern large-scale conflict scenarios. Swikblog recently explored how major publishers are shifting toward larger cross-platform ecosystems and cinematic multiplayer experiences in its report on gaming trends shaping 2026.
After several mixed reactions to recent Call of Duty entries, Modern Warfare 4 now faces huge expectations. But with Captain Price going rogue, a Korea-centered war narrative, DMZâs return and Nintendo Switch 2 support, Infinity Ward may have delivered one of the franchiseâs most ambitious setups in years.
