Five-Star Cadbury Ice Cream Discontinued Across Australia After Winning Top Consumer Award

A Cadbury ice cream tub that shoppers rated as Australia’s best has been discontinued, creating an unusual supermarket twist: the product won a five-star consumer award just as it was leaving freezer shelves.

The Cadbury Dairy Milk 460ml tub range has been confirmed as no longer in production, according to an editor’s note on Canstar Blue’s 2026 ice cream tub ratings. The update matters because Cadbury had just secured Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers Award for ice cream tubs after Australian shoppers rated it highest across the main satisfaction categories.

Canstar Blue’s result was based on a survey of more than 2,700 Australians who had bought ice cream in the previous six months. Cadbury’s 460ml tub range scored five stars for overall satisfaction, taste, value for money, variety, packaging and consistency, while texture was the only area where it received four stars. That made the product one of the strongest performers in this year’s supermarket ice cream rankings.

The discontinued tubs had been sold through major Australian supermarkets including Coles and Woolworths, but online listings have shown the range as unavailable. For regular buyers, the disappearance may feel sudden because the product had built its appeal around a familiar Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate core and a selection of dessert-style flavours.

The timing is what makes the story stand out. In most cases, shoppers expect award-winning products to gain more shelf space, not vanish from stores. But supermarket ranges are shaped by more than customer ratings. Production agreements, freezer space, sales volume, supplier priorities and licensing arrangements can all influence whether a product remains available.

For Cadbury fans, the news is frustrating because the survey suggests the product was not disliked or ignored. It had strong consumer approval. The issue appears to be availability, not demand from loyal shoppers. Peters Ice Cream, which was linked to the range, informed Canstar Blue after the award process that the Cadbury Dairy Milk 460ml tubs were no longer being made.

Shoppers looking for another highly rated tub still have options. Bulla finished close behind Cadbury and also received five stars for overall satisfaction. Other familiar names in the tub category, including Ben & Jerry’s, Peters, Coles, Aldi and Woolworths, received three stars for overall satisfaction in the survey.

Aldi had a stronger showing in the multi-pack category. Its Monarc Crowns range took the top spot after earning five-star reviews across all measured categories. The budget-friendly pack, priced around $3.39, comes in flavours including vanilla, chocolate, choc mint and boysenberry. Aldi’s Monarc Utopia followed in second place, while Cadbury’s multi-pack products also performed well with five stars for overall satisfaction.

The survey also offered a clear look at how Australians buy ice cream. More than half of shoppers said they take advantage of specials, while only 13% said they simply choose the cheapest option available. That suggests most customers are still weighing quality and value together, rather than buying only on price.

Flavour preferences were just as clear. Vanilla remained Australia’s favourite ice cream flavour with 27% of the vote, followed by chocolate at 15%. Caramel and cookies and cream tied for third place, showing that classic flavours still dominate the freezer aisle despite the constant arrival of new limited-edition products.

For now, the Cadbury Dairy Milk 460ml tub range leaves behind a rare final chapter: a product that shoppers rated at the top of the freezer aisle, only to find it was already on its way out. Its five-star win may now serve less as a launchpad and more as a farewell note for one of Australia’s discontinued supermarket favourites.
