One man is in critical condition and seven men have been arrested after four people were stabbed during an altercation on Bromley High Street in south-east London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called at approximately 2:15pm on Thursday, September 10, following reports of an altercation in the busy town-centre shopping district.
Police attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, finding four men with stab wounds.
One of the men was taken to hospital in critical condition. Police said the other three victims were receiving treatment for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Seven men were arrested following the incident and remained in police custody as detectives continued their enquiries.
Major emergency response in Bromley town centre
The London Ambulance Service said it received the first call at 2:19pm and deployed ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast-response car, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic.
London’s Air Ambulance was also sent to Bromley High Street. All four patients were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital.
Large sections of the High Street were placed behind police cordons while officers examined the scene. Images from the area showed numerous emergency vehicles and groups of people gathered outside the restricted zone.
Witnesses reported hearing repeated sirens during the response, while a police drone was reportedly deployed above the town centre.
Initial reports claimed the confrontation happened near a fast-food restaurant and may have involved people carrying machetes. However, police described the incident only as an “altercation” and had not publicly confirmed the type of weapons involved at the time of this update.
The incident happened in a heavily used part of Bromley town centre near the Churchill Theatre and The Glades shopping centre. Members of the public were advised to avoid the cordoned area while emergency services and investigators remained at the scene.
The response follows another significant police operation in southern England after a man suffered life-changing injuries in the recent Luton police shooting and stabbing incident.
Police say there is no wider public threat
The Metropolitan Police said its enquiries were continuing but added that investigators did not believe there was a wider threat to the public.
Peter Fortune, the MP for Bromley and Biggin Hill, said he was aware of the stabbings and understood that local residents would have concerns about safety.
“The police remain in attendance and have made a number of arrests,” Fortune said. “I will remain in close contact with the police as they continue to investigate this incident.”
No further information about the identities or ages of the four injured men or the seven people arrested had been released.
