Vienna Georgia Shooting: 2 Killed, Up to 35 Injured at Homecoming Block Party

Updated October 5, 2026

VIENNA, Ga. — Authorities have identified the two men killed in a homecoming weekend block party shooting that left 35 others injured in Vienna, Georgia. The injured are in conditions ranging from stable to critical, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s latest update.

The men killed were Ja’Quavion Aderious Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Malik Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The GBI said their bodies would be taken to its Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

What happened and the latest injury update

The GBI said deputies patrolling a neighborhood block party heard shots from the 900 block of Pine Street at about 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, October 4. They found several people who had been shot and discovered the two men killed in the 600 block of Pine Street.

More than 1,000 people attended the gathering. Sheriff Craig Peavy said more than 50 shots were fired in at least two locations. Deputies heard further gunfire while responding, according to Sky News.

The injured ranged in age from 14 to 51. The 35-person injury total includes people hurt while fleeing, rather than only gunshot victims. The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said 25 people were shot and 10 others were injured, according to WALB’s updated reporting.

Crisp Regional Hospital began receiving patients shortly after 2 a.m. Officials said two patients required emergency surgery and two others were transferred to other facilities. Staff activated emergency response protocols and called in additional personnel.

“The tragic events of this morning simply should not happen in our otherwise peaceful South Georgia communities,” hospital CEO Steven Gautney said.

Investigation, official statements and witness appeal

Investigators were still searching for those responsible in WSB-TV’s Monday morning update. No arrest or confirmed motive was announced in the updates reviewed.

“This is the one that just caught me off guard,” Peavy said. Deputies were stationed at both ends of the party and had to move through fleeing crowds to reach victims.

GBI Director Chris Hosey said six investigative units had been activated. “We don’t want to presume anything as to what caused it,” he said.

Dooly County Schools Superintendent Sherrod Willaford said the gathering was not a school-sponsored event. Schools were scheduled to open Monday with additional safety measures.

The violence came the same weekend as a deadly shooting at a Baltimore youth football gathering.
