Bullsbrook and Muchea are under an emergency bushfire warning, with authorities urging people in the warning zone to leave immediately as the fire burns close to homes.
Emergency warning area
The warning applies to people within the area bounded by Granary Drive, Great Northern Highway, Rutland Road, Bingham Road, Davern Street and Archibald Street in Bullsbrook and Muchea.
The alert was issued at 1.55pm, with residents told to leave now if it is safe to do so. Authorities warned there is a threat to lives and homes and that people in the warning zone need to act immediately.
Road closures and travel disruption
Tonkin Highway is closed between Neaves Road and Granary Drive. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and follow directions from emergency services.
What to do if you can leave
If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place, such as with family or friends away from the area. If it is safe to do so, leave in a southerly direction via Muchea South Road. Do not wait and see—leaving at the last minute can put your life in danger. Take your emergency kit with you.
If you become stuck in your car
If you become stuck in your car, park away from bushes. Cover yourself with a woollen blanket and get onto the floor, as windows may break from intense heat. Close all doors and windows. Turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
If you cannot leave and must shelter
If you cannot leave, you must get ready to shelter in your home. You must shelter before the fire arrives, as extreme heat can be fatal before flames reach you. Move to a room with running water—such as a kitchen or laundry—and make sure there is a clear exit so you can escape if conditions change.
If you are not at home, it is too dangerous to return.
