Authorities have not released the victims’ names or ages. The identity of the suspect and the motive behind the shooting also remained undisclosed in the latest available police information.
Fairfield Mall Shooting: What Happened at Spirit Halloween?
Fairfield police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Spirit Halloween store inside Solano Town Center, a major shopping centre on Travis Boulevard near Interstate 80 in Solano County.
Initial reports described an active police operation, with officers arriving at the shopping centre as emergency personnel responded to multiple casualties.
Bay City News, reporting through SFGATE, said the incident was reported around 9 p.m. and that onlookers had seen several people who appeared to be injured. Fairfield police, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters and emergency medical crews responded to the scene.
The initial emergency response involved a large police presence around the Spirit Halloween location and neighbouring parts of the shopping complex.
KTVU FOX 2 reported that cameras captured the police activity outside the Halloween store. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that its officers were assisting with the response.
As officers searched the mall, additional police agencies were called in to help clear buildings, control traffic and secure the surrounding area.
The Chronicle reported that Fairfield police continued interviewing witnesses and working to identify the person responsible for the shooting.
Seven Shot, One Killed and Three Critically Injured
In an update issued shortly before midnight Friday, Fairfield police confirmed seven gunshot victims, including one person who died from their injuries.
The six surviving victims were taken to local hospitals. Police said at least three were in critical condition, but did not provide additional medical details about the remaining survivors.
Earlier emergency radio traffic reviewed by the Chronicle indicated that two critically injured patients were being transported to NorthBay Medical Center and another to a Kaiser hospital. The subsequent police update confirmed the number of critically injured victims but did not provide a complete hospital-by-hospital breakdown.
Police have not disclosed the identities of the deceased victim or those receiving hospital treatment.
The shooting also prompted assistance from neighbouring Suisun City police. Mayor Alma Hernandez said officers from her city responded through a mutual-aid request and helped search for a suspect.
Hernandez later reported that the shopping centre had been cleared and Suisun City officers released from the response. However, the search for the person responsible remained a focus of the investigation.
In a statement reported by the Chronicle, Hernandez asked the community to support the victims, their families and responding officers, emphasising the need for residents to come together following the violence.
Suspect and Motive Remain Unknown
Fairfield police had not publicly identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive in the information available at the time of this update.
Authorities also had not established publicly whether the victims were specifically targeted or whether the shooting followed an argument or another confrontation.
Investigators continued gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the gunfire inside the store.
The Fairfield shooting occurred on the same day as a separate reported incident at Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, Alabama, where reports of gunfire prompted a mall lockdown and police response. The incidents occurred in different states, and authorities have not reported any connection between them.
