Heated Rivalry Sweeps Canadian Screen Awards 2026 With 16 Wins and Best Drama Series Honor

Heated Rivalry has moved from breakout TV obsession to award-season powerhouse after sweeping the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards with 16 total wins, including Best Drama Series, Best Lead Performer in a Drama Series for Hudson Williams and the Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award.

The result makes the hockey drama one of the clearest success stories of this year’s Canadian awards season. The series came into the weekend with 18 nominations and had already built strong momentum after winning 13 prizes at the scripted television gala. By the time Sunday’s main ceremony ended in Toronto, Heated Rivalry had turned that early lead into a commanding finish.

Its Best Drama Series win came against Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, Plan B, Saint-Pierre and Wild Cards. Williams’ acting win added another major headline for the show, which has gained a loyal audience through its emotional story of two rival hockey players whose relationship develops under the pressure of fame, competition and public scrutiny.

The show’s rise did not happen in isolation. Swikblog previously covered its awards momentum when North of North led with 20 nominations and Heated Rivalry followed with 18 nominations at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards. That nominations race has now turned into a defining win for Heated Rivalry, proving that the series had both industry support and fan strength behind it.

What separates this victory from a routine awards sweep is the combination of jury recognition and audience response. Best Drama Series points to critical respect, while the Audience Choice Award shows that viewers were not just watching the show — they were actively pushing it into the centre of Canada’s pop-culture conversation.

The Canadian Screen Awards also underlined a strong year for homegrown storytelling beyond Heated Rivalry. North of North, the CBC and Netflix comedy filmed in Nunavut, won Best Comedy Series, while Anna Lambe took Best Lead Performer in a Comedy Series. The series had entered the race as the most-nominated television program with 20 nominations, making its comedy win another important moment for Canadian TV.

In film, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie won Best Motion Picture, while Jay McCarrol earned the comedy lead performance award. Grace Glowicki won the drama lead performance prize for Honey Bunch. These wins helped spread the night’s attention across film and television, even as Heated Rivalry remained the dominant story.

The ceremony also carried major legacy moments. Mike Myers received the Academy Icon Award and delivered an emotional speech crediting Canada and his parents for shaping his career. Sophie Nélisse received the Radius Award, which recognizes Canadian talent whose work has earned international attention. Nélisse had already been part of the Heated Rivalry awards story after winning a supporting performer prize earlier in the weekend.

This year’s event was also historic for the awards themselves. The Canadian Screen Awards were broadcast across multiple networks and streaming platforms for the first time, including CBC, CTV and Global, giving the ceremony a wider national stage. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television presents the Canadian Screen Awards each year to recognize achievement across film, television and digital media.

The night also included a tribute to Catherine O’Hara, introduced by Eugene Levy, before the annual in memoriam segment honoured artists and industry figures who died over the past year.

For Heated Rivalry, the 16-award haul does more than decorate a successful first season. It gives the series a stronger place in Canada’s television conversation and sets a high bar for what comes next. A debut season that can win over critics, fans and awards voters at the same time is rare. Heated Rivalry has now done exactly that.
