IShowSpeed’s Dad Took a 12-Hour Bus Ride to See His World Cup Final Performance

IShowSpeed’s dad travelled for approximately 12 hours by bus after his flight was cancelled, determined to reach New Jersey in time to watch his son perform at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final closing ceremony.

The remarkable journey was revealed in a video shared by the Speedy HQ account on X on July 19. Sitting alongside his son inside MetLife Stadium, Speed’s father explained that bad weather disrupted his original travel plans.

Instead of abandoning the trip, he found another way to reach the stadium. The lengthy bus journey ultimately brought him to East Rutherford before one of the biggest moments of Darren Watkins Jr.’s career.

The account accompanying the video said Speed’s father travelled for 12 hours following the flight cancellation so he could see his son take part in the ceremony. The clip showed the pair sitting together in the stands before the performance.

A proud family moment at MetLife Stadium

IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., was officially included in the entertainment lineup for the closing ceremony before the Argentina vs Spain final.

For his father, the occasion represented far more than another football match. His decision to continue by road after losing his flight highlighted the personal importance of watching Speed move from streaming football matches in the stands to performing on the sport’s biggest stage.

The father and son have appeared together in previous videos, but the scene at MetLife Stadium carried added significance. Speed has built much of his worldwide following through his energetic football content, particularly his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.

His father’s journey quickly attracted emotional reactions online, with supporters praising him for refusing to let the weather disruption prevent him from being present. Some fans described it as an example of the sacrifices parents make to support their children’s ambitions.

The video’s central claim comes from Speed’s father and the social-media account sharing the footage. Specific details about the cancelled flight, including its departure city and airline, were not disclosed in the post.

How IShowSpeed reached the World Cup’s biggest stage

Speed’s closing-ceremony appearance capped an extraordinary tournament for the American creator. He livestreamed from several World Cup matches and produced numerous viral encounters with supporters, players and other celebrities.

His tournament was not without tense moments. During one match, IShowSpeed was confronted and targeted by supporters, demonstrating how unpredictable his stadium broadcasts could become.

Nevertheless, his prominence throughout the competition eventually led to an official role in the final-day celebrations. FIFA confirmed that Speed would appear alongside figures including Post Malone, Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger and Robbie Williams.

Jennifer Hudson was selected to perform the United States national anthem before the match. According to FIFA’s official closing-ceremony announcement, the show was created to celebrate the 48 teams and 16 host cities involved in the expanded tournament across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. ET, approximately 90 minutes before Argentina and Spain were due to contest the final. The match also brought Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal together on the field years after their now-famous childhood photograph, a story explored through the remarkable connection between Messi and Yamal.

For Speed, however, one of the day’s defining moments happened before he performed. After a cancelled flight and an exhausting overnight journey, his father was sitting inside MetLife Stadium to witness the achievement in person.

Note: The travel account is based on remarks made in the circulating video. Further flight details had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.
