Ohio State closed out its season-opening homestand in emphatic style on Tuesday night, torching Mount St. Mary’s 113–60 behind one of its most complete offensive performances in years. The Buckeyes shot a blistering 64.1% from the field and 48.4% from deep, improving to a perfect 6–0 before heading into a far more difficult stretch of games.
Freshman guard John Mobley Jr. delivered his best outing yet, exploding for a career-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including four triples. His shot-making set the tone early, and Mount St. Mary’s simply had no answer for the Buckeyes’ pace, spacing, and depth.
Ohio State shared the scoring load with four more players in double figures. Devin Royal added 17 points on an ultra-efficient 7-for-10 night, while veteran guard Bruce Thornton finished with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Backup center Ivan Njegovan was flawless, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field for a career-best 15 points as the bench contributed 35 total.

The first half stayed competitive briefly, with the Mountaineers trailing just 10–8 early. But an 8–0 Buckeye run sparked by an Amare Bynum three-pointer opened the floodgates. Ohio State closed the half on a dominant 21–3 surge, taking a 52–26 lead into the break.
Any hopes of a comeback ended immediately after halftime. Mobley drilled a deep three from the midcourt logo, Royal completed a rare four-point play, and Ohio State ballooned the margin to 69–31. From there, the Buckeyes cruised behind clean ball movement, transition play, and overwhelming shooting.
Head coach Jake Diebler noted post-game that forward Christoph Tilly exited with a lower-body injury as a precaution, but he was seen smiling on the sideline and is not expected to miss extended time.
With the homestand complete, Ohio State now shifts to a defining five-game stretch, including matchups against Pitt, Northwestern, Illinois, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
