xAI Launches Grok Bot, AI Teammates That Can Work Across Apps and Websites

xAI has launched Grok Bot in early beta, introducing always-on AI teammates designed to complete work across apps, websites and business tools rather than simply answer questions. Each Bot gets its own cloud computer, allowing it to continue working after the user steps away and return when a task is finished or human approval is required.

The launch reflects a broader shift in artificial intelligence from chat-based assistants toward autonomous agents that can take action inside the software people already use. For businesses, that could mean handing repetitive or multi-step work to AI instead of manually moving between inboxes, CRM systems, websites and internal tools.

What is Grok Bot and how does it work?

Grok Bot is designed to behave more like a digital coworker than a conventional chatbot. Users can message a Bot from desktop or mobile, assign a task and continue the same conversation later.

The major difference is that the Bot can work outside the chat window. xAI says Bots can sign into applications, websites and online tools, carry out steps inside those services and keep working from their own computer in the cloud.

That persistent computer is important because the task does not need to stop when the user closes a laptop or leaves the app. It also allows Grok Bot to interact with platforms that may not offer a convenient API or MCP connection, potentially expanding the range of business software that can be automated.

The wider push toward autonomous systems can also be seen in Tesla-xAI’s Macrohard AI project, which reflects growing interest in AI capable of carrying out complex computer-based work.

Users can teach Grok Bot their workflow

xAI is positioning Grok Bot as easier to use than traditional workflow automation tools. Instead of building detailed rules, triggers and integrations, users can describe a job in natural language and let the Bot work through the required steps.

A user can also show a Bot how a recurring task is performed. The Bot follows along, remembers the process and can save it as a routine for future use. Corrections can influence later runs, reducing the need to explain the same workflow repeatedly.

xAI says Bots also retain context from earlier conversations and learn how users prefer work to be handled. Over time, that could include writing preferences, recurring exceptions and when the Bot should continue independently versus ask for approval.

Multiple Grok Bots can work together

Grok Bot is built around more than one agent. Users can run several Bots in parallel, with different agents responsible for areas such as sales, recruiting, expenses, engineering, inbox management or office operations.

xAI says Bots can message each other, share context and coordinate work inside threads. They can also be placed in group chats where they assign responsibilities, hand tasks between agents and involve the human user when a decision is needed.

This could reduce one of the biggest frustrations with current AI workflows: the user often remains responsible for copying information between different assistants and tools.

How xAI is already using Grok Bot

xAI says Grok Bot was first built as an internal prototype and later spread across teams inside the company.

In sales, a Bot can update a CRM with notes from customer calls and draft follow-up messages. In operations, Bots have been used for tasks such as processing invoices received through Gmail and helping with new-hire office arrangements.

Engineering workflows can involve several agents. One Bot may reproduce a bug in the product interface, file the relevant ticket and then hand the issue to another Bot focused on debugging. xAI also says Bots have been used for marketing campaigns, sales outbound and other recurring operational work.

Who can access Grok Bot?

According to xAI, Grok Bot is currently available in early beta for SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra and Cursor Teams Premium subscribers.

The company says users can access their AI teammates through desktop and iOS, while enterprise customers can join a waitlist for future availability.

Why Grok Bot matters for businesses

The biggest change is the move from asking AI for assistance to assigning AI responsibility for part of a workflow. Instead of generating a draft and leaving the remaining steps to the user, a Bot can potentially complete more of the job inside the actual software where the work happens.

That also increases the importance of security and reliability. A Bot with access to email, customer databases, invoices or internal systems may encounter sensitive information, making permissions, approval controls and clear records of agent activity essential.

Early-beta status is therefore important. The real test will not be whether Grok Bot can complete impressive demonstrations, but how reliably it handles unusual situations, changing interfaces and tasks where a wrong action could have real consequences.

If xAI can make that model dependable, Grok Bot could represent a significant step toward AI systems that operate less like chat assistants and more like persistent digital workers capable of handling real tasks across the tools businesses use every day.
