Every year on October 10, the world observes World Mental Health Day, which provides a forum for promoting mental health concerns and organizing activities that promote mental wellness. Since its founding in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health, the day has expanded into a global movement raising awareness of the critical role that mental health plays in both our general well-being and quality of life.

Thousands of supporters gather on this day to commemorate the annual awareness program that raises mental illness awareness and its significant impact on people’s lives all around the world. Furthermore, this day gives mental health practitioners a chance to talk and highlight about their work to elevate mental health a global issue. Some countries have awareness weeks during this day, like Australia’s Mental Health Week.

Theme of World Mental Health Day 2024

This year the World Mental Health Day will be celebrated with the theme – “Mental Health at Work”

The official World Mental Health Day theme for this year highlights- “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,”. In keeping with the core values of WFMH, which were formed in 1948, this subject emphasizes the vital necessity of mental health in professional settings.

With partners, WHO is highlighting the critical relationship between mental health and work on World Mental Health Day. Workplaces that are safe and healthful can serve as a buffer for mental health. Unhealthy environments, such as discrimination, stigma, and exposure to dangers like harassment and other unfavorable working conditions, can be quite dangerous and have an impact on one’s general well-being, mental health, and involvement or productivity at work. Since 60% of people in the world are working, we need to move right away to make sure that work doesn’t put mental health at risk and that mental health is protected and supported at work.
