An 18-year-old man has died after falling from a sixth-floor balcony at a Brisbane hotel during a police operation, prompting an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The incident happened shortly before 6pm on Saturday at a hotel on Wickham Terrace in Spring Hill, a busy inner-city area near Brisbaneâs CBD. Queensland Police said officers had gone to the address after receiving information that a person wanted in relation to a series of alleged property crimes was inside the building.
Acting Chief Superintendent Simon Taylor said the young man, from Annerley, was one of four people inside the hotel room when officers arrived and identified themselves.
Police allege the teenager then tried to flee by climbing over the sixth-floor balcony in an attempt to reach a lower level of the hotel. He fell during the attempt and suffered critical injuries.
Officers immediately began CPR before paramedics arrived, but the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

âAs you can imagine, that was quite a confronting scene for our responding officers,â he said.
