Police have launched an urgent search at Koombana Bay in Bunbury after a woman disappeared while swimming on Wednesday morning.
The woman entered the water just after 9:20am, according to police, but did not return. She has not been seen since, prompting an immediate response from emergency services at one of Bunburyâs most visited coastal spots.
Koombana Bay sits about 170 kilometres south of Perth and is widely used by local swimmers, families and visitors. The area is normally known for calmer beach conditions, which has made the missing swimmer report especially concerning for authorities and the local community.
Search teams moved quickly after the alarm was raised. Water Police are checking the bay from the water, while local police, marine rescue volunteers and surf lifesaving crews are assisting with the wider operation along the shoreline and nearby coastal areas.
Officers at the scene have been using binoculars to scan the ocean as crews continue looking for any sign of the missing woman or evidence that may help explain what happened after she entered the water.
Bunbury Police Senior Sergeant Steve Principe said emergency resources were sent to the area straight away as police worked to confirm the report and search the water.
âWeâve got some resources out here at the moment, just to have a look around to see if we can find any evidence to indicate that is true,â he said.
Police have also issued a public appeal, asking anyone who knows a regular Koombana Bay swimmer who has not returned home to contact authorities.
âIf anyone knows of someone who does come here and swim at Koombana Bay and hasn’t returned home, if they could let Crime Stoppers know, or police we would appreciate it,â Senior Sergeant Principe said.
No further details about the missing woman have been released publicly. Police have not confirmed her age or whether anyone was with her when she entered the water.
