Fortnite x South Park Explained: Cartmanland, Skins, Modes, and What’s New

Written by Jason Miller, Senior Gaming Analyst

Fortnite has rolled out one of its most ambitious TV crossovers yet, teaming up with South Park for an in-game event called Born in Chaos. Unlike smaller cosmetic drops, this collaboration brings map changes, gameplay items, a new squad format, and narrative flavor to the island. Below is a clear breakdown of what’s new—and what actually matters when you jump in.

What Is “Born in Chaos”?

Born in Chaos is the name of the South Park–themed Fortnite event that blends official cosmetics with playable features. It’s framed by a short animated setup in classic South Park style and culminates in a limited-time takeover that runs through early February.

Cartmanland: The Big Map Change

The headline addition is Cartmanland, a dedicated Point of Interest (POI) that replaces an existing area on the island. It’s not just a reskin—expect themed landmarks, visual gags, and loot routes designed around the crossover. For players who prioritize rotations and drop spots, Cartmanland becomes a must-learn location during the event window.

Skins: Who’s Playable (and How They Look)

Five core South Park characters are playable, each adapted into full-scale mech suits to match Fortnite’s proportions:

  • Cartman — Awesom-O–inspired mech with episode callbacks
  • Stan — Outfit nodding to “Chinpokomon” tech
  • Kyle — Custom mech design
  • Kenny — Scrap-built mech with deliberate humor
  • Butters (Professor Chaos) — Villain-themed variant

All five appear in the Item Shop individually and as part of a bundle.

Also included: Towelie as a sidekick cosmetic, designed to follow players in matches.

New Items and Gameplay Tweaks

Born in Chaos isn’t just visual. Several items and mechanics shake up matches:

  • Stick of Truth (Mythic) — A high-impact item with storm-altering effects (limited availability).
  • Cheesy Poofs (Consumable) — Restores health and grants a short speed boost.
  • Born in Chaos Mini-Pass — A free progression track with unlockable event rewards.

These additions are built to be noticeable without overwhelming the core battle royale loop.

Quints Mode: Five-Player Squads

Fortnite introduces Quints, a five-player team playlist designed to mirror the South Park core group dynamic. It’s a subtle but meaningful shift for squads that prefer chaotic, social gameplay over tight competitive formats.

Timing: When It’s Live

  • Item Shop launch: January 9, 2026 (regional shop reset times apply)
  • Event end: February 5, 2026

Most features—including Cartmanland, items, and Quints—are available throughout the event window.

Why This Crossover Stands Out

What sets Fortnite x South Park apart is scale. This isn’t just a set of skins—it’s a map alteration, a new squad format, mythic items, and narrative framing rolled into one event. It follows Fortnite’s recent trend of treating crossovers as mini-seasons rather than short promos.

Quick Take

If you only care about cosmetics, you can jump in, grab a skin, and move on. But if you enjoy learning new drop spots, experimenting with limited-time items, or trying alternative squad formats, Born in Chaos offers more to explore than most licensed events.
