Walmart customers are being urged to check their freezers after federal food safety officials expanded a public health alert involving frozen pizzas and other packaged foods that may contain an ingredient linked to possible salmonella contamination.
The alert affects select Great Value Chicken Bacon Ranch frozen pizzas sold at Walmart, along with several Aldi pizza products, Culinary Circle pizza and Pork King Good pork rinds. The concern is not the pizza recipe itself, but a recalled dry milk powder ingredient used in some meat and poultry products.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said the affected items contain FDA-regulated dairy ingredients that may be contaminated with salmonella, and warned that more downstream products may be identified as the ingredient investigation continues. Consumers can review the official alert on the USDA FSIS recall alert page.

Other products included in the salmonella alert
The wider alert also covers products sold outside Walmart, including Aldi’s Mama Cozzi’s breakfast pizzas, Culinary Circle pizza and Pork King Good pork rinds. That makes the recall important even for shoppers who did not buy pizza at Walmart.

The affected Culinary Circle pizza was distributed in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington. The other listed products were described as sold nationwide.
The link between these products is the recalled dry milk powder. When one ingredient is used by several manufacturers, a food safety problem can spread across different shelves, brands and stores before regulators finish tracing every product that used it.

Why salmonella is a serious concern
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache and loss of appetite. Symptoms often begin between six hours and six days after exposure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Most people recover within four to seven days, but the illness can be more dangerous for infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Severe cases may require medical care or hospitalization.
As of the latest alert, officials had not confirmed illnesses tied to the affected products. Still, regulators are advising consumers not to eat any recalled or matching items because salmonella contamination cannot be detected by smell, taste or appearance.
What shoppers should do now
Anyone who bought Great Value Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza, Aldi breakfast pizza, Culinary Circle Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza or Pork King Good Sour Cream & Onion pork rinds should check the package label carefully. Match the product name with the lot code, best-by date and establishment number where available.
If the product matches the alert, do not cook it or taste it. Throw it away in a sealed bag or return it to the place of purchase. Consumers should also wash hands, clean freezer areas, and sanitize any surfaces that may have touched leaking or opened packaging.
People with food safety questions can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854. Anyone who develops serious symptoms after eating a recalled product should contact a healthcare provider.
