CHICAGO â A 24-year-old Palatine woman remains the subject of a missing-person appeal after her family said she traveled to Chicago with her boyfriend, who returned home without her.
Alyssa M. Smith has been missing since September 27, according to flyers shared by her mother, Rebecca Smith, of Fox River Grove. Her familyâs appeal describes her last reported location as Chicagoâs West Garfield Park area, somewhere between Cicero Avenue, Pulaski Road and Madison Street.
The boyfriend returned home on October 1 and has reportedly been searching the area where he was last with Alyssa, according to a family flyer cited by Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Family and friends have not heard from Alyssa since she traveled to Chicago with her boyfriend, according to Illinois Missing Persons, as cited in the local report.
A family flyer says Alyssa may have a black eye. The reporting does not establish when or how the possible injury occurred.
Police follow up on two possible sighting locations
Palatine police received the missing-person report on Wednesday, September 30, according to the departmentâs appeal published by Cardinal News. The report date is distinct from September 27, the date given by her family.
Detectives are investigating information that Smith may have been seen in Chicagoâs Grant Park on Saturday, October 3, and around Cicero Avenue and Roosevelt Road on the West Side.
The police appeal said detectives had been âactively investigating Smithâs whereabouts and following up on information received regarding possible sightings.â Neither location has been established as a confirmed sighting in the reports reviewed.
The published accounts do not explain why the couple separated or provide a precise time and address for their last contact. They do not identify the boyfriend as a suspect or announce charges against him.
Pennywise tattoo among identifying details
Smith is approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 135â140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She has numerous tattoos, including a âPennywiseâ clown tattoo on her left shoulder, and multiple piercings, according to Journal & Topicsâ report of the police appeal.
Her piercings include her nose, septum and eyebrow, according to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
She is believed to have last worn a gray hooded sweatshirt, light khaki-colored pants or sweatpants, and white Adidas shoes.
Anyone with information should contact Palatine Police Department detectives at 847-359-9000. Anyone who sees her or knows her immediate location should contact local law enforcement or 911. Local reporting advises people not to approach or attempt to detain her.
